Comprehensive U.S. Talks Possible – Iran FM

Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said today that direct, comprehensive talks with the U.S. were possible. He added that the country’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has to approve such talks. He did not elaborate if Khamenei will approve them. (IRNA, 3 December)

Salehi made the remarks in direct response to U.S. Secretary of State Hillary
Clinton’s comments on Friday that the U.S. is ready to hold talks if Tehran were “ready to engage.”

“Should Iran finally be ready to engage in serious negotiations, we are ready,” Clinton said. “When Iran is prepared to take confidence-building measures that are verifiable, we are prepared to reciprocate,” she added. (Reuters, 1 December)

Come on guys there is nothing to negotiate.
US is saying that this regime cannot be trusted with a penknife, let alone nuclear weapons!
And besides the regime is trying to blackmail the West into preserving the regimes position in the world.
But I am afraid to say that will not work.
As an example look at the old Soviet Union with their 15000 nuclear weapon stockpile.
Did it save the Soviet regime?
Course it didn't,and the same will happen to the Islamic regime with their puny stockpile of dirt.
It's just a matter of time that the Angel of death will come and knock on the door of the Islamist theocracy to ask it to accompany it to hell.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is a 100% liar, why would any nation deal with him?

Better to destroy him and his kind!!!

With what?

Rapprochement is the only solution, Iran needs the US and the US needs Iran. More than 30 years of conflict hasn't been good for any side.

US also said the same thing about the Soviet Union and even its ally, Pakistan. Did those countries give a damn what the US said? No!

And besides the regime is trying to blackmail the West into preserving the regimes position in the world.

Nonsense. It's the West that is trying to blackmail Iran, not the other way around! See this eye-opening article: U.S. - Iran Relations: Catalog of Missed Opportunities

No, but it would have save the Soviet Union from foreign adversary. The whole premise of nuclear weapons is to safeguard the country's national security against external threats. Nuclear weapons are never intended to protect the regime from internal threats.

There is a saying in Persian: “kaseh-ye az aash daaghtar” (the pot hotter than the soup). Iranian foreign minister is saying Iran might be ready to start “comprehensive and direct talks” with the U.S. And some commentators here are suggesting why Iran should not negotiate with the U.S. May calm and love for peace guide us all so Iran and the U.S. can start a new page in their relations.

Indeed, the primary motivation for Iran to obtain a nuclear weapon would be to avoid an invasion by the US and to thwart their efforts for regime change. Of course, it won't guarantee the regime's survival against its internal opposition. However, for the regime's decision-makers, it's a small price to pay considering the odds of foreign-sponsored regime change is much greater than the odds of domestic-sponsored regime change.

Remember this that the biggest threat to national security of Iran and its future is the ideology of the occupying Islamic theocracy itself.
For they are the enemy within that will lead to the destruction of the soul of Iran.

Doubt it, even when the theocracy is gone, which is inevitable, if the new government does not obey the US, the situation will be the same. Just look at Venezuela or other american nations which have UN controlled elections, and the US still hates them.

the US doesn't hate Venezuela, it loathes the clownish and cretinous Chavez
