Tehran Mayor Says as President He Will Stabilize Economy in 2 Years

Tehran mayor and presidential candidate Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf criticized the current economic situation in Iran, saying the economy is in a state of uncertainty, hurting both poor and the rich, and in need of major structural reforms. Qalibaf promised that he will stabilize the economy within 2 years of his election. (Tasnim News Agency, 27 April)

Qalibaf is a member of the conservative Coalition of Three, along with Ali Akbar Velayati and Qolam Ali Haddad Adel. The coalition will chose one of the three to represent the traditional conservative factions close to Ayatollah Khamenei in the 14 June presidential election. A recent public opinion poll commissioned by the country’s state radio and TV organization showed Qalibaf to rank third among all potential candidates. Former presidents Hashemi Rafsanjani and Mohammad Khatami ranked first and second in the survey.

Bager Qalibaf is a smart man and the father of the IRGC rotary wing aviation. He is a well respected veteran and a very stable man. His analysis is correct, Iran is a rich country blessed with very industrious and educated people and they have succeeded in denting the impotent US/Zionist "sanctions" and have created an increasingly resilient economy based on self-reliance. Iranian FOREX reserves are well in excess of $250 BILLION and trade with Asia is now well over $300 BILLION. Iran will thrive and grow stronger by the day. GOD BLESS IRAN & IRANIANS.

Khamenei/Sepah gang has clearly demonstrated their bad/low IQ judgement by choosing Ahmadinejad for president; in their circle Ahmadinejad is looked upon as the 'bright guy' - ha ha ha idiots ...

Where is your source of 250 Billion in reserve currency?

Ghalibaff is a realist, balanced minded in economics as well as politics. He is quite the opposite of Ahmadinejad when it comes to daily politics. (he ignores it) ,I hope he will make it.

Needs mentioning, Ahmadinejad had to constantly over compensate with regards to Israel due to his personal heritage and this very issue out of the way I guess polarisations will stop within Iran and I hope rational reactions from the outside could all help.

What's left is his security, which I hope Mossad assassins wont get a chance to whack him since he is also a formidable manager

Azari by fortune and Iranian by Grace of God

By they way I think also that Ghalibaf is a good guy; I would not mind if he is the president - instead of (lets say) Khatamei; but Rafsanjani is the guy who can change the orientation of the system - Khatamie and Ghalibaf can not change the system; and change is what we need ...

Those of you who support Qalibaf, need to answer a few questions:
1. Is Qalibaf’s assessment that Iran’s economy is in an unstable state correct? I personally believe he is right, but I thought the supporters of conservative factions believe the economy is very stable, notwithstanding sanctions.
2. Can Qalibaf stabilize the economy in 2 years? How? Is that a signal to the West that within 2 years he wants to end the sanctions? How? What kind of compromise he can strike with the West to have the sanctions end?
3. do you believe that the poor is being hurt in today’s economy? I personally agree with Qalibaf on this assessment, but I thought the supporters of the conservative factions and Qalibaf in particular were telling us how poor has been taken care of in today’s Iran, how many projects were being made to make their lives better, etc. is Qalibaf off that message then?

1. Is Qalibaf’s assessment that Iran’s economy is in an unstable state correct? I personally believe he is right, but I thought the supporters of conservative factions believe the economy is very stable, notwithstanding sanctions.

A. There are a number of economic indicators each with a varying grade. "Stability" is a broad term. I can't speak for the candidate and we don't have enough of his views to go by, with the actual context of his remarks not provided. So it's impossible to answer this question in detail.

2.Can Qalibaf stabilize the economy in 2 years? How? Is that a signal to the West that within 2 years he wants to end the sanctions? How? What kind of compromise he can strike with the West to have the sanctions end?

A. Again, what is meant by "stability"? The question is too vague. Are you and the candidate referring to consumer spending confidence? Lowered inflation rate? Higher employment? Again, we don't have enough of the candidate's views on the matter to go by, and this question is too vague in which to offer a response, in detail.

3. do you believe that the poor is being hurt in today’s economy? I personally agree with Qalibaf on this assessment, but I thought the supporters of the conservative factions and Qalibaf in particular were telling us how poor has been taken care of in today’s Iran, how many projects were being made to make their lives better, etc. is Qalibaf off that message then?

A. Nader, you're again representing Iran's political environment in rigid, monolithic terms. It's more dynamic than that. "Taken care of" is a broad term. In a dynamic, representative political system--even Iran's--courting political favor with the electorate, including the lower economic segment of society (remember, they get the vote, too) is the standard business of any election.

The big news is not a single element of Qalibaf's political platform (rendered without detail and context) but rather that the man has now publicly declared himself a candidate.

Ghalibaff gained his apprenticeship through murder of opponents of the anti Iran fascist theocracy.Like all the rest of them in IRI leadership he must be brought to justice.

Fortunately born a Mazandarani in the heart of a Iran.

The Deputy Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade; Alireza Shojaee said, the US and Western powers have admitted that Iran has overcome the toughest pressures they have put on the country, saying Iran is shifting from petrodollars to revenues from non-oil exports.

He further said that foreign Researchers have acknowledged that Iran has taken a new step, and even if it completely halts its oil exports, it will be able to run its own economy as an at least average country, and have a say in the world.

Nevertheless, Iran has cushioned the impact of sanctions by pumping up non-petroleum exports and developing economic ties with other countries.

There are no opponents Mr Mazandarani / regardless of Western media terms.
There are disgrunteled, disappointed or other forms of Iranians, who would jump at the chance of serving Iran by a twich on a thread.
What could be considrered as Opponents, are the handful of Monarchists that have the usual romantic nostalgic mentalities often not knowing what they talk about quite often recognizable through their foul mouthed behaiviours. They are after their own priveleges and not Irans interests.
The other so called opponents are a 2-3000 of 50-60 year old ex terrorists that have more regrets in life that hope called the MKO. At the moment selling their souls for a home to die in, promising as far as murder for others to be let into some country and sometimes not even so much is enough.

Because lets face it, if one could betray his own fatherland regardless of any situation, is not only untrustworthy but dangerous and should only be considered a tool and then thrown away. That is what anti Iranian Iranians are for all. and this principle does apply for everyone and not just for Iranians. So decide what you are and stop throwing baseless accusations at people for other peoples benefit and recognition.

Anon 5:23 AM.....The "terrorists" are the ones running the regime Mr IRI Groupie.
You go and tell the families of thousands of political prisoners and the executed "there are no opponents" against the tyrannical Islamic theocracy.
How dare a IRI Groupie and stooge mention to any Iranian about betrayal against Iran and Iranian. You shameless hypocritical hussy go and spin your propaganda and lies to one of your West residing cappuccino drinking IRI lovelies who are sucking the blood of Iranians whilst living in the comfort of the West.
The dirty Islamic terrorist regime has no interest in the well being of Iran except for the rape of the country for the greater benefit of themselves and terrorists in Lebanon and Syria.Don't you ever forget it little hypocrite that the MKO was one of the organizations that were your bed fellows in the rape of Iran.
You have obviously decided who you side with and that is the terrorist anti Iran regime that is presently occupying the country.Which means the remaining majority of Iranians will have their say on the day of reckoning against the decrepit theocracy.Be happy in your self inflicted delusions.

Well as you see you just confirmed me and I announce thee as a Monarchist (judging from your choice of words !)
The rest of what you say or think is more or less, irrelevant.

Rather be a "Monarchist" or a Communist than some West residing traitorous and hypocritical IRI cappuccino drinking Groupie which has only the rape of Iran in mind.
