‘Joint Plan of Action’ Goes Into Effect Today

Iran stopped production of uranium enriched to 20 percent purity, its most sensitive nuclear work, today. The IAEA conformed the stoppage and the U.S. and the EU began to ease sanctions on the country.

The State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki called today’s development “an unprecedented opportunity” to resolve global concerns over Iran’s nuclear program.

Secretary of State John Kerry approved a waiver to eliminate sanctions identified in Geneva’s Joint Plan of Action signed by Iran and six major powers on November 24.

The accord gives the two sides six months to work out a final comprehensive agreement on the country’s nuclear program.
