Dr. Abdol Karim Lahiji, an Iranian lawyer and a
noted human rights activist, was elected Tuesday as president of the International
Federation of Human Rights (FIDH). The Paris-based FIDH is a non-governmental
federation for human rights organizations. Founded in 1922, FIDH is the oldest
international human rights association and today brings together 164 member
organizations in over 100 countries.
Lahiji
studied law
at Tehran University and has
been a human rights advocate for over three decades. He lives in Paris, where
he founded the Iranian Association for
the Defense of Human Rights. He has served as the vice president of
FIDH.
After his election as FIDH president, Lahiji called for immediate and
unconditional release from prisons of all human rights activists across the
world.

Good news. Just hope he won't be bought out by IRI money and claim that Iran is the bastion of human rights!
