Iran-Pakistan Gas Pipeline Shelved

The $1.3 billion Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline has been shelved by Pakistan, dealing a blow to Islamabad's efforts to access cheap energy sources to overcome a crippling power crisis.

“In the absence of international sanctions the project can be completed within three years, but the government cannot take it any further at the moment because international sanctions against Iran are a serious issue,” Pakistani Petroleum Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said today. (NDTV, 25 February)

The agreement for the pipeline was signed in 2009. Former Pakistani president Asif Ali Zardari and his then Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had announced the start of the project in February last year. Officials had said at the time it would be completed in 15 months.

Iran should seal its border with this mess called Pakistan. Iran does not need to sell Gas to these people they will not pay the money for sure anyways.

I totally agree with the post above. Let us understand the fact that Pakistan is a country that survives due to crisis. It creates crisis and then it sucks help, support and money both from the West and the East. It gets F-16 from US and then develops F-17 with China. It helps Iran getting centrifuge technology and then helps the Saudis do the same thing soon. It has strong bonds with the British but at the same time helps the Taliban to screw Western troops in Afghanistan. It is a matrix of mess and it only survives thanks to chaos and crisis it creates inside and also around itself. The world should deal with Pakistan more seriously, as a matter of fact US should focus more on Pakistan than it does on Iran.

Pakistan is as much a country as Iran or Iraq or Syria or Lebanon.... and has a more powerful military than does Iran.

it may be surprising to you BMA that unlike you we live in a society that tolerates and ecourages free speech. it is called democracy. For someone who believes in sharia nonsense democracy has no value.

"we"? Is that a royal we? Since when is racist abuse free speech?
