Iran Bans Imports of 'Luxury' Goods

Iran has banned the import of foreign-made cars, laptops, and “luxury” goods in a move to save billions of dollars in hard currency, the official news agency IRNA reported today. The import ban includes a total of 75 products that also include watches, home appliances, cell phones, coffee, and toilet paper.

The sanctions against Iran’s oil and banking sectors have had adversely affected the country’s foreign reserves and hit its own currency hard.
