Iran Launches Air Drills

Iran’s Army (Artesh) and the IRGC launched joint military drills across half the country today. The maneuvers codenamed the Modafe'an-e Aseman-e Velayat 4 (“Defenders of the Velayat Skies 4”) are designed to test the country’s air defense capabilities. A military spokesman said the seven-day Velayat-4 maneuvers were the “biggest air drills the country has ever had.”

“These drills… send out a strong warning to those threatening Iran,” said Brig. Gen. Shahrokh Shahram, the spokesman for Velayat-4 maneuvers.  (Press TV, 12 November)

Iran’s F-4, F-5, F-7, F-14, Mirage and Sukhoi fighter jets and refueling aircraft as well as air defense and missile systems will be employed during the maneuvers. (IRIB, 12 November)
