Iran's Air Force escorts Russian strategic aviation during airstrike against ISIL

Social media video emerged 20NOV15 depicting Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) F-14A and F-4E combat aircraft rendering allied fighter escort for Russian Air Force (RuAF) strategic aviation over Iranian airspace. The Russian video depicts RuAF strategic aviation comprised of Tu-22M3 “Blinder’, Tu-95MS “Bear” and Tu-160 “Blackjack" combat aircraft. Video stills and complete video provided below:

What appears to be an IRIAF McDonnell Douglas F-4E fighter-bomber accompanying RuAF Tupolev Tu-95MS strategic bomber and missile platform, emerging in Russian cameraman's LOS immediately following the drop-launch of ALCM. Next ALCM is now visible on rotated launcher.

COMMENTARY: IRIAF can now claim to have participated in the war against ISIL on two theaters: the Iraqi theater and now the Syrian theaters of war.

The Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin is scheduled to meet Iranian Commander-in-Chief Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on 23NOV15 in Tehran.

Russians and Iran need closer military integration as they are eternal neighbors and natural allies. It is great to see President Putin in Tehran next week.

The F-14 plane depicted above appears to be unarmed .

Allied aircraft escorted through non-hostile airspace.

It is called symbolic escort to show respect like escorting a visiting dignitary VIP escort which are unarmed normally in home airspace. Iranians have provided escort to the Russian Knights SU-30 returning from a UAE airshow recently too. It like waving the national flag.

Amazing views, and a wake up call to those delussionsts, who dwell on their desires that Russia and the Islamic Republic will not cooperate in case of territorial and military threats against both countries.

Obviously some of the famed Iranian F-14s are still airworthy. Quite an achievement by domestic Iranian industry to keep these 35 yr old planes still flying despite tight arms embargoes. How useful they would be against a modern airforce in a dogfight, however, is quite another matter.

Russia has never been an "natural allie" of Iran.It invaded Iran several times as well as stealing our lands like Azarbaijan and other places.Just imagine if the US was allowed to use Iranian airspace to go and bomb in another country? People will call the regime in Tehran "puppets".But I suppose because it is Russia it is "natural".
