Iraq Has Forced Down Iranian Planes Shipping Arms to Syria - FM

Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari said today that Iraq was determined to prevent the shipment of arms from Iran to Syria. Zebari told reporters in Baghdad that Iraq had already forced down Iranian planes for inspection and had turned them back out of Iraqi airspace after finding that they were carrying weapons bound for Syria. (Reuters, 30 September)
The Iraqi foreign minister said he had promised the United States that it would prevent such Iranian flights over Iraqi territory. Last week, Baghdad made a formal request to Tehran to halt the flights.

I'm baffled! How in the hell did Iraq, which has zero airforce capability, manage to force down Iranian planes?

the Iraqis sent up kites to foul the iranian planes' propellers.

I would not be surprised if Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari issued a false statement in an deliberate attempt to placate US's demands and it would make logical sense considering Iraq's strong ties with Iran.

The Iraqis and the Islamic fruitcakes are both liars.

The FM's statement doesn't make sense. The Iraqi leadership in Baghdad is in the midst of an external tug of war. Which words are correct and which actions are being taken is difficult to determine. This issue will not be going away as the battleground in Syria continues with no end in sight.

I'm confused. Are responding to Anon 1:04 AM's post or FM's statement?

Another lie from Reuters. Iraq said it has inspected planes and NOT FOUND ANY WEAPONS.
