Israeli military is conducting its largest snap drill in years. An
Israeli military spokesman said today the exercise was under way in northern
and central Israel. He called it a “planned, routine event.” (AP, 19 September)
Other Israeli officials, however, said the drill is unique in terms of
number of soldiers and senior officers involved. Tens of thousands of troops, including
the artillery and air force, are participating. Part of the exercise is in the
Israeli-controlled Golan Heights, AP reported.
