Iran, P5+1 Make ‘Limited’ Progress at Nuclear Talks

Senior negotiators from Iran and P5+1 held their latest round of negotiations in Geneva on Sunday. The talks followed a series of one-on-one meetings between Secretary of State John Kerry and Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif in Geneva and Paris during the week. However, despite the intense diplomacy, the two sides made only “limited” progress in narrowing differences over Iran’s nuclear program.

“Substantive progress is limited,” a diplomat told Reuters. (Reuters, 18 January)

The officials are hoping to reach an understanding on key parameters that would govern the negotiations by the end of March. The current deadline for a final deal is 30 June.
