Ahmadinejad Attacks US and Israel; Calls for Elimination of Jewish State

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, speaking in the holy city of Qom, launched an attack Israel, calling for the elimination of the Jewish state.

“The US seeks to save the Zionist regime (Israel) with deceit. Everybody should know that the survival of the Zionist regime and its existence even in one span of the Palestinian soil is like preserving a cancerous tumor in the body of regional nations, and is a permanent threat against them,” said Ahmadinejad. “The Iranian people and world nations are awakened and demand justice, freedom and the complete elimination of Israel,” [Press TV translation from Persian/IRNA, 26 May].

Ahmadinejad also warned against US influence in the Middle East.

“The enemy [the US] has worn the mask of deceit and is chanting the slogan of peaceful coexistence, but in fact intends to impose American ideas on nations,” Ahmadinejad said. “Today, the plots of enemies have become more complicated than the past. They smile and threaten at the same time. They use their political, military and economic capabilities against nations while claiming to be flagbearers of defending human rights.”

Talk is cheap, how about some action Ahmadinejad......or are you and the rest of your kind cowards???

I see that even Turkey is telling you and your women & childern killing buddies in Syria to stuff it!

Israel is ready to hurt Iran bad, they are just waiting for Iran to get the guts to make the first move, at that point the US will have to let the hound off the leash!!!

This could be Ahmadinejad attempting to appeal to his traditional base by evoking the rhetoric of the "good 'ol days" of his presidency?

Or it might be "merely" tied to Obama's speech and the visit of Netanyahu to the US?

Or perhaps some combination thereof.

1. Why are you calling Israel a "Jewish State"? What about the 20% of Arabs living there and the 10% of Russian emigrates who are not Jews?

2. You imply that Ahmedinjad called for for the "Elemination of the Jewish State"

In the quotes you cite he doesn't do so.

The "Zionist regime" is an ideology, not a state.

Unnecessary and inappropriate use of language. This is music to ears of extremist Zionists who would no doubt misuse his speech to argue that Iran poses an existential threat to ‘Jewish Nation’, invoking sympathy for an inherently vile and racist movement.

I have quoted verbatim the state-owned and operated Press TV: "Zionist regime (Israel)". The reference to "Israel" is Press TV's. Please direct your anger and unhappiness to IRI's own network. Also, for those of you who might be new to these terms, anytime the officials of IRI mention "Zionist regime," they mean Israel. And "arrogant regime" refers to the US.

Ahmadinejad did not say Zionism, he said "Zionist regime." Unless Press TV has reasons to mis-translate his words, which is highly unlikely.

The state of Israel was created as a Jewish state, I don't see the controversy over the use of the term. You might argue that the state of Israel should not be a Jewish state, but that's a political argument.

BTW, please note the following quote from Press TV:

"He added that the Iranian people and world nations are awakened and demand justice, freedom and the complete elimination of Israel, IRNA reported."

Ahmadinejad was not ambiguous at all in calling for the elimination of Israel.

As reader has aptly said, this is a very dangerous and irresponsible speech by a man who has made fame for himself for outrageous statements. But at the end of the day, this is the height of irresponsibility. He wants to risk the wellbeing and the future of an ancient nation for short-term political gains.

I agree with the "Reader". The whole attack or rhetoric is nonsense and serves noone including those who matter that is Iran.

I fail to see what this guy is trying to achieve by saying these stuff that raises sympathy for Israel.

What strategic value does it serve to attack Israel. Does an average Iranian has sympathy for Arabs. Wether right or wrong we look down on Arabs as destroyers of our civilisation. Does Iran has any Arab friend? No. Look around Iran's neigbours. The only real consistent and cordial relationship has been with Armenia who are not even Muslims.

Why bother attacking Israel. Who really cares about that wreched desert and for that matter whoever lives there. Whether Zionisim, Muslimism or whatever. How Ahmadinejad is going to help the average man in the street of Iran by babbling about Zionism etc and inviting sympathy for these people.

Remember these people are in Israel because noone else once them. 50 years ago they used to live in ghettos of Europe and now they have all been kicked into that land.

It is in Iran's interest for jews and arabs to have permanent conflict. Let them get on with it and in the meantime take high moral stand.

Dr. Ahmadinejad is stating the obvious. The imported Zionist entity is literally on stolen land and on borrowed time. Regional and global demographics and new Asia centric economic realities as well as the "Arab Awakening" will take care of it in a a couple of decades.

Even the not so bright CIA, in its latest regional report predicts the end of Zionist entity sooner than later.

More on the use of the term "Jewish" State: Isn't it same as "Islamic" Republic. Not all Iranians are Muslim either.

I would recommend the following in your future blog posts:

Always give the url to the original source, it's really not that hard [Press TV].

Never add something that wasn't in the article. The Press TV Article did not mention the "Jewish state" so YOU (unless you can't provide another source) put those words in the president's mouth.

Anon 3:24 AM,

Thanks for your note. Pls note that quotations marks are used for quoting someone in the posts. If the words are not in quotation marks, they are not direct quotations.

Again, the anger exhibited in some of the comments should be redirected to Ahmadinejad for an irresponsible and dangerous use of a hostile language.

should be pointed at you who should know better than making a case for war on Iran.

You know how war loving the west have become.

Israel is a Jewish state in the same way as Poland is a Polish state, Armenia is an Armenian state, Ireland is an Irish state, Arabia ia an Arab state, etc.

Why not? In my opinion a people has a right to own its homeland, even if that homeland has been conquered or colonised by others in the past.

To eliminate any misunderstanding can I suggest that the posters use the term "Poster's note" in the future followed by the info.

Putting taht aside I agree completely with Mr Uskowi that the nonsense coming out of a head of state is indiffensible. This is the kind of nonsense that make things hard for Iranians and the image of Iranians everywhere. There is a difference between being confident and assertive and being irresponsible. I emphasise irresponsible because the president of Iran is talking as head of state not as himself!

If we turn the picture around and let someone in Israel threaten to destroy Iran, how would we feel? I am sure us being a very proud nation will not take it lightly. Whatever our views about these people they are human as well and they will react accordingly!

Sometimes I wonder this guy is sick or something. No president of Iran has done as much damage to Iran's prestige as this Ahmadinejad!! I even remember Khomeini once said and I quote "Agreesion is not in the dignity of Islamic Republic".

One could also make a very valid argument that you are also living on stolen property given that Judaism is more than 2500 years older than Islam if you really want to go there.
