Iran Defense Minister in Dushanbe, Tajikistan

Iran Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi arrived in Dushanbe, for talks with Tajikistan Defense Minister General Shir-Ali Kheirollahev. Signing is planned of a memorandum of understanding on defense.

"Iran and Tajikistan have shared histories, shared languages and shared cultures, based on which we enjoy very good comprehensive relations in defense, political, economic and cultural fields" stated Defense Minister Vahidi, upon his arrival.

This is good news. Tajik are Farsi speaking and like Afghans were part of the Persian Empire and still very close to Iranians culturally, linguistically and in religion. Iran's military ties will help stability in the region and also offer training to the Tajiks in Farsi which is much easier than any other foreign military involvement in the region. Excellent soft power projection by Iran in a friendly neighboring Islamic nation.
