No Deal Today - Yet ‘A Lot of Concrete Progress’

Iran and world powers were unable to seal a deal today, but set 20 November as the date of their next meeting in Geneva to work on concluding an agreement.

EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton held a post-meeting press conference with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

“A lot of concrete progress has been achieved but some issues remain,” Ashton said, adding: “Our objective is to reach a conclusion and that’s what we’ll come back (to Geneva on 20 November) to try to do.” (AFP, 10 November)

Reports indicate that the French concerns over an apparent Iranian unwillingness to delay the completion of its plutonium-producing IR-40 reactor in Arak
was one of the stumbling blocks that prevented an agreement today.

“The meetings in Geneva have made it possible to move forward, but we have not yet managed to conclude (a deal), because there are still some questions remaining to be dealt with,” said French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius.

Secretary of State John Kerry was optimistic: “We made a lot of progress,” but need to ‘dot the I’s and cross the t’s’ to reach an agreement. (@StateDept/Twitter)

Even though no deal yet, signs appear encouraging.

Have to say, unfortunate a minor power like France possessing a de facto veto on Iran's nuclear program. Their place in these talks at Geneva (as well as UNSC) should really be taken by Brazil.

Classic terrorist iranian mentality - If someone in your population disagrees with you deny then the right to their voice. Let's put France in evin while we're at it.

There's been talk that even India should be accepted into the "Elite".

It's pretty unlikely that any current veto-wielding country would be replaced.... other countries would instead be granted such status.

Somebody please occupy France again.... they seem to have forgotten themselves and have become rentable.

Azari by fortune and Iranian by Grace of God.

your place on this blog should be taken by a space monkey.

It's good to know a "minor power like France" possesses a de facto veto against a terrorist regime's nuclear program. Brazil is not an oringinal member of the nuclear club so tough luck.

Wow "Dariush" why you living in London while you could be supporting your favourite terrorist regime from within Iran?

The p5+1 isnt a democracy, its job is to agree a deal with iran, and its pretty stupid of the french to put the whole opportunity at risk because they want to tow the israeli line on iran

Its pretty stupid not to mention irresponsible to allow the french to run the risk of destroying a lot of hard work by all the sides involved.Brazil is not a nuclear power but india is,if you`re going to allow china to join then why not india?,of course if you`re going to allow second rate powers with small nuclear arsenals like the uk or france to be on the security council then you really should let others like pakistan and the dprk as well

Anon 10:33 PM......Those "second rate powers with small nuclear arsenals like uk or france" can easily increase their arsenals. Just to remind you,France has over fifty nuclear reactors. When the nuclear club was formed, USA the then Soviet Union,Britain,France and the last one China were the only nuclear powers at the time. And to compare Pakistan and North Korea to France and Britain is it bit silly don't you think? The bottom line is that unlike countries like India,Pakistan and Israel Iran SIGNED the NPT therefore by signing that line any regime in power operating nuclear facilities must be FULLY TRANSPARENT which the present regime isn't.

He is not fighting the west's wars because, as a typical warmonger, he is more of a lead from behind kind of "patriot", ready to fight to the last drop of other people's blood.

That's because like a true hypocrite and islamo fascist supporter of the terrorist regime, they love to take all the benefits that the west provides as well as blood from the Iranian people who are living under the terrorist regime's occupation.

This is a blog site about Iran and Iranians. You islamo fascist supporters have nothing else to argue about except the Arab Israeli issue.Since day one that this islamo fascist terrorist theocracy has occupied Iran they only seem to care for Syrian regime and Palestinians as well as those Hezbollah terrorists in south Lebanon.

For a site that is supposed to be about Iran, it is also being used to argue and promote the zionfascist issue. That is all that anti-Iran people here, care about. While that happens, zionfascists are in no position to lecture Iran and Iranians for doing things that they themselves, do, like living off the benefits that the west provides as well as blood from other people.

No one but batche basiji types are promoting the Arab Israeli issue. As an Iranian I am disgusted by tooleh basiji types that always twists issues concerning people in Iran into issues concerning Palestinians and Arabs in general. As I said, you islamo fascist supporters of the occupying and terrorizing mafia regime in Iran have nothing else to say except for your obscene obsession with the so-called "Zionist" entity.

That makes a difference from the obscene obsession the zionfascists have with Iran.
