Iran Sanctions: Declining Trade with Dubai

Observing a more strict application of UN sanctions against Iran, the UAE government has taken measures that are resulting in significantly lower trade volume across the Persian Gulf.

- In the last two months, UAE authorities have closed down 40 trading firms doing business with Iran for dealing in “dual-use and dangerous materials” that violate UN sanctions [AFP, 22 June].

- All containers arriving at Dubai ports for trans-shipment by smaller boats to Iran have to be unloaded, inspected, and loaded into new containers, a process that costs traders 1,000 extra dollars per container.

- For years, Dubai was Iran’s top trading partner, with trade volume estimated at 10 billion dollars a year. Last year, the volume dropped to 7 billion dollars and in the recent months, Dubai trade volume has slipped to the third place.

About time too

Let them Dear Arab brothers see if they can get along without Iran.

Lets see how else the West will try to sell an experimental building to the Arabs that will fall victim to natural decay due to Sandstorms and humidity withinn 10-20 years.

That way all petrodollars will flow back to the western Banks and Iran will long have found another hub for its transactions

The owners of this site provide a good service that is very informative.

I have only one recommendation:

Please whenever possible include the source of the information or post you write, e.g. in the June 22, 2010 post Iran Sanctions: Declining Trade with Dubai there seems to be no source for the numbers and facts made. TThis would be helpful to many of your readers in college, researchers, academics and professionals (writers)would like to see this.
