IRGC Commander Maj. Gen. Mohammad Ali Jafari said today in Tehran that the “enemies” were planning a “major conspiracy” against the Islamic Republic during the Iranian New Year holidays (which started on 20 March), but were unsuccessful due to IRGC’s vigilance that defeated their plans [Fars News Agency, 7 April].
Gen. Jafari did not elaborate who the conspirators were, or what the conspiracy was. However, the serious language used by the top IRGC officer indicates that the Iranian leadership considers the event that Jafari is referring to as a major move against the Islamic Republic.
