Chinese Ship Hijacked Off Iranian Port of Chabahar

The Chinese freighter “XIANG HUA MEN” was hijacked this morning near the Iranian port of Chabahar in the Gulf of Oman, the Chinese Embassy in Tehran reported today. The embassy said it is in touch with the Iranian authorities to recover the vessel and its crew. No other details were available at this time. [Xinhua, Reuters].

“XIANG HUA MEN” is a BV-class freighter registered in Panama. It is owned by China’s Nanjing Ocean Shipping Co., Ltd. (NASCO.) The vessel was built in Germany and launched in 1987. Its deadweight is 20,000 tons. [www.nasco.com].
