IRGC Warns US over Strait of Hormuz

The commander of IRGC Navy (IRGCN) said today the US is not in a position to stop Iran from closing the Strait of Hormuz.

“Americans are not in a position whether to allow Iran to close off the Strait of Hormuz,” said IRGCN Commander Brig. Gen. Hossein Salami [IRNA, 29 December].

“Any threat will be responded by threat ... We will not relinquish our strategic moves if Iran's vital interests are undermined by any means,” Gen. Salami said.

If people have been paying attentions lately, Iran's army have adopted a new defence strategy by responding to threats with threats..I think the US needs to back away from this dangerous confrontation.

You think about it - How will the US feel or react if Iran's navy happens to be stationed just off the coast of Mexico in the name of "protecting security" and tell the US what to do?

With assassinations, sabotage and interference in Iran's internal affairs by the US, it's only a matter of time before Iran responds. From recent movement in the region, it's kinda fair to say the Iranian government is preparing for a confrontation with US navy assets in the Persian Gulf.

I feel sorry for the leaders on both sides.Obama needs to be seen as "acting tough" by the neocons, who're putting lots of pressure on him and Israeli lobby in order to win votes. Iranian leaders also want to look tough to divert attention from real issues facing the average Iranian. The US and Iranian government have a lot in common.Cool heads needs to prevails here otherwise the consequences will be far reaching.

This game of my gun's bigger than your gun will not end well for all involved.

If this is really Iran's strategy they need to be very clear about it - sanctions on oil = war which, although it might cost Iran a lot or even more, will certainly cost the west far more than they can gain with sanctions.

At some point you need to stop being bullied.

2012 will be the year of war. It's almost certain.

1. The straits will be blocked for some time period with missiles, mines and ships, maybe a month, maybe four months, maybe it will be harassed forever. Who knows.

2. Inevitably the war will expand to an all out confrontation with the US and probably Israel also (although Israel may amazingly completely stay out of it).

It will be an ugly year, but by the end of the year the Americans will have gotten their desire for a fight out of their system.

Does Iran have its new aircraft carriers built and deployed yet?

Why do we let the us navy sail their ships right through our naval war drills?

This behaviour by the united states is unexceptable.

We must take action now.

The IRGC are run by demon possessed lunatic terrorists who are haven't progressed their thinking in 2K years. They support world terrorism, kill their own people and refuse to recognize human rights, have the highest drug addiction problems in the world and will eventually pay the price for the filth they spread. Because they have on their agenda to try and wipe Israel off the map, the God of Abraham will crush and annihilate these leaders of hate just like Hitler and Saddam... looking forward to it and may God have mercy on the Iranian people.

First of all, it's a diesel-electric submarine, not a nuclear submarine so get your facts straight. Secondly, the Indian navy also operate the same subs and they don't consider them as junk. Lastly, NATO called those subs "black hole" for a reason.

I believe Anon 12:26 PM is referring to the incident at an Arctic shipyard today.
