Iran to Close Hormuz if Attacked – Member of Majlis

Member of Majlis Parviz Sarvari said today that the Iranian military will soon hold an exercise on closing the Strait of Hormuz. Sarvari is a member of the parliament’s National Security Committee.

“Soon we will hold a military maneuver on how to close the Strait of Hormuz. If the world wants to make the region insecure, we will make the world insecure," Sarvari said [ISNA, 12 December].

The comments were the first by an Iranian official with knowledge of the country's national security policies of a concrete plan to close the Strait of Hormuz in case of a hostility involving Iran.

Most of the crude exported from Iran, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Iraq - together with nearly all the liquefied natural gas from Qatar - pass through the Strait, a 4-mile wide shipping channel between Oman and Iran.

Sounds like more talk to help keep oil prices up.....nothing more.

That is OK there is two sides to a coin.
By doing this Islamic regime will only spite itself because the US can easily stop all ships leaving or entering the sea of Oman and Arabian sea leading to the Persian gulf.
Islamic regime in no way can challenge US dominance in that part of the ocean.
Which leaves the unfortunate Iranian navy in the closed waters of the Persian gulf with no possible breakout and a possible Turkey shoot in horizon by the combined sea and air power of the US navy.
Sorry guys to disappoint you.

Oh and another thing if Islamic regime attacks the US fleet in Qatar it will be WW3 and you know who will win that one.
I feel sorry for Iran being ruled by such foolish pig headed idiots.

Just barking propaganda.
the ultimate goal of the Mullahs is to stay in power and they know that it will be the end of their regime if they get into a full blown war with the US and Nato. The Mullahs will sell their mothers just to hold to power, like when the big Mullah drank the poison chalice, this one will drink the poison "barrel" when necessary.

Iran CAN close the Strait to traffic, but what then?

Iran can't keep it closed, and it can't defend itself against the attacks that will follow trying to keep it closed.

There's no military option for Iran.
It will have to rely on a political one or pray that the West won't attack until Iran can assemble their nuclear weapons.

And Iran is slowly sinking all the while.

It has been 33 boring and sleepy years of talking, briefing and planning of striking and attacking the most powerful nation in the whole region of the Middle East, the mighty Islamic Republic of Iran since 1979's Islamic Revolution.

The question is, WHY?

mat me mate I tell you why because it suits their own purposes to keep a backward government in Iran so that the system can keep the country down like North Korea.

Anonymous said...

The point of this exercise is to act as a deterrent against attack. Iran is not going to completely close the strait, but they want to make the cost of attacking them to look higher.

mat said...

No any superpower in the world that could ever afford, even the least, to deter, halt or stop the mighty Islamic Republic of Iran from closing the Strait of Hormuz, anytime and anyday, in the event of an 'real' attack. All those enemies' sitting ugly 'DUCKs' and 'DUCKLINGs' are within Iran's ranges of advanced and sophiticated, eagerly awaiting missiles. The real fact is, those enemies could just keep talking, planning and dreaming, on and on, for hundreds of years to come. That's for sure.

At present, in this era of millenium, it's really just too late for the U.S. to directly start a war or mess with the mighty Iran, a new superpower and the most powerful nation in the whole region of the Middle East (as stated by those former U.S. military personnel),as which, militarily, have been growing rapidly and tremendously. The truth is, the U.S. should have done that long ago since the famous tragic event of the 1979's Islamic Revolution. What the biggest of all, U.S.'s problem!

Could one imagine the U.S. without those nuclear weapons?

Mr. Uskowi this is Rick , I made the comment about Israel IOF agents here making comments and you decided not to publish my comment, that is really sad, I thought you were a fair person. Now I know where you stand. Obviously with the enemies of your people, just like MEK , sorry to see that.

That's right mat that's why that Khomeini said he will drink the poison chalice because Iraq beat the "mighty Islamic republic"and went back to their 1975 borders. And that same Iraq was defeated in two weeks by the US.
And you think because this stupid and backward regime has a few toys they can defeat America in a full blown out war?
If you believe that then they must have really brainwashed you beyond hope.

I couldn't agree with you more.Don't forget these people have an agenda and their agenda is to spread lies and propaganda amongst Iranian sites to claim they are the majority but in fact they are the tiny but very active minority working for the Islamic regime and receiving payments for their malice.
Some of these people are not Iranians at all but foreign Muslims who actively hate Iranian culture and want to see the destruction of Iran and replaced by an Muslim empire with Persian replaced with Arabic as a spoken language. This is no fiction because Rafsanjani said this in 1981 that he would like to see the replacement of Farsi with Arabic and hopefully see the gradual replacement of Iranian culture.
Truly a bunch of gangsters and hypocrites that they should be removed so that Iran can be saved from their filthy yoke.

As matter of policy, we do not encourage and will not publish comments on accusing others of being the agent of an intelligent service. Such accusations do not help advance the debate on the issues at hand.

Rick
You claim the Iranian people who voice their dislike against the Islamic regime are IOF or MEK agents?
But not only that you also expect Mr Uskowi to take sides as well and you accuse him of being against the Iranian people which is down right hilarious.
So Rick what do you want? The usual regime apologists and sycophantic that praise the Islamic Theocracy?
If your expecting that then go and watch IRIB or read IRNA MEHR or better still read the IRGC news outlets.

The Strait of Hormuz is Iran`s most valuable strategic asset. Even with the most simple military means, Iran is still able to exert gapless control over it. This gives Iran a HUGE leverage regarding western energy supply, as about 20-30% of the world`s oil supply must pass through the Strait of Hormuz. Even if Iran was under heavy attack, it could still manage to block the Strait of Hormuz and relentlessly sink every single oil tanker which tries to pass. This would cause a persistent standstill of vast parts of world's economy, resulting in millions of people losing their jobs.

Anonymous said...

Steve

I see your point but consider this Iran would only cut its nose to spite it's face. That means that Iran wont be able to export its oil therefore hastening the collapse of the Islamic regime.
How is this done?
Simple the US navy would just anchor itself outside the Persian gulf and prevent any ship from entering or leaving after that they could easily attack the assets of the Iranian navy and IRGC units therefore neutralizing their capability.
People who think otherwise are delusional and live in the land of make believe.

Mr. Uskowi, this is Rick again. I just want to remind you , just because you don't want to talk about it, or allow it on your blog, it doesn't mean it doesn't exist right here on this blog. It's a plain fact, that Israel has hundreds if not thousands of propgenda agents who infiltrate Iranian websites and blogs and leave anti-Iranian proMEK and pro Israel comments. Please, please don't be fooled by these people who pretend that they are Iranians.
80 to 85 percent of people I deal with every single day are Iranians, and I generally here lot of positive things about iran. This brainwashing that you allow here helps to create an environment for war that will end up killing a lot of poor innocent people, whose blood would be on the hands of people who activity or passively ( like your blog) encoreged it to happen. Please sir, for the sake of your family, friends in iran and also your people don't let the war happen. Thank you.

No, you don't see my point, you try to deny it, Mr Joo.
It doesn't matter whether Iran itself will suffer from a closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
Blocking it will anyway be an 'action of last resort', but an efficient one at that.
Iran can easily survive a couple of months despite missing revenues from oil and gas sales. But World's economies cannot survive for an equal amount of time without oil supply originating from the Persian Gulf. If they're running out of oil, they will crash in a couple of days.

Where did your manners go to Steve?
Is that the best you can do by calling me Mr Joo?
For your information it's Jew but you being underhanded and one of the Islamic regimes stooges what is expected.
And no I'm not Jewish or even Israeli but Iranian and proud of it.
What I said earlier sticks and say it again that the US can easily blockade Iran outside Persian gulf.
Islamic regime will not easily ride this in two months because the US will go on much longer than 2 months. If Islamic regime prevents other countries in gulf from exporting or attacks US bases in the region it will be WW3.So Islamic regime will be the one that is prevented from exporting its oil.
So remember this Steve anybody doing the blockading will be the US not Islamic regime because if you have any common sense you would know the US has the greatest military assets in the region and if need be call out the extras.
So please don't bore us with your regime inspired propaganda because this Islamic regime is all bluster.

Anonymous said...

Anon 4:21 PM

To effectively blockade the Persian gulf you need a properly equipped air force which Iran lacks.
One US aircraft carrier has 90 aircraft on board. They also have ships and submarines with enough firepower to send the Islamic regime to kingdom come.Meaning he who controls the air controls the ground.
Now you sit behind your computer and convince yourself otherwise.

Some logic Steve boy.So why doesn't the world community join the "mighty Islamic republic"and benefit from its amazing wisdom and economic power.

"To effectively blockade the" Persian gulf you need a properly equipped air force which Iran lacks.

Iran has developed a comprehensive doctrine
of asymmetric warfare, based on its experience during
the Iran-Iraq War as well as more recent conflicts
in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Lebanon. And thanks to its
efforts to develop a robust asymmetric warfare capability
in the naval arena, the Islamic Republic holds the
Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz—the world’s oil
lifeline—in its grip.
As part of this effort, Iran has greatly expanded the
IRGCN’s role and capabilities, including its ability to
escalate the scope and intensity of any conflict and to
project Iranian power in this strategic arena. It should
be remembered that during the events of 1987–1988,
the IRGCN was still in its infancy and had limited
resources and experience during its confrontation with
the U.S. Navy. The IRGCN in its current incarnation is
a highly motivated, well-equipped, well-financed force.

A war game conducted by the U.S. military in 2002,
called Millennium Challenge, revealed a serious fleet
vulnerability to well-coordinated attacks by ballistic
and cruise missiles and swarming speedboats in littoral
waters, causing “the worst [simulated] naval defeat
since Pearl Harbor.”25 Since then, Western militaries
have studied the concept of “net-centric” warfare in
the maritime environment, especially against swarm
attacks, and expect this concept—which stems from
information advantages on the battlefield—to help
reduce, if not eliminate, their vulnerability.26
Based on the doctrine of asymmetric naval warfare,
the Iranian military has embarked on a remarkable
rearmament and re-equipment program during the
past decade, aimed at offsetting the U.S. Navy’s military
presence in the Persian Gulf region. The Iranians
appear confident that the dense, layered defense they
have created, along with their much-vaunted swarming
tactics and the fear inspired by their martyrdom
culture, will deter an attack against their territory or
interests.

To the Iranian military expert.

You don't have to be an expert to realize that the US spends more money on its armed forces in one year that Iran would do in thirty years.Over a Trillion Dollars.Do you know what that means?
The US doesn't have to face Iran inside the Persian gulf because they know that inside the Persian gulf it is risky.
Therefore the US will anchor outside well away from Iran's mobile shore missiles and small gun boats and mini subs.Iran's air force is weak and poses no long term threat against the US navy.
The US can easily block the Iranian navy inside the Persian gulf and then pick their targets according to their priorities.
Gradually the US will after destroying the mobile shore battery's and navel bases will hunt down through air and sea any possible stray units which are in service.
This doesn't take into consideration the massive US navel nuclear submarine fleet which can target any part of the regimes units or bases from deep inside the Indian ocean.
Iran is being spied on from all directions specially from outer space therefore Islamic regime won't be able to move a glass of water without the US knowing.
I'm sorry Mr Iranian military expert but the odds are stacked against the Islamic regime.

You obviously, value military power
over the Peoples will. You should read books about the Vietnam war.
Imperialism was defeated in that war. The Cuban Revolution, the anti apartheid war of south africa. And now the Iraq war. According to the Gaurdian News paper out of the U.K.
1000,000,200,000 Iraqi's were killed in the Iraq War. Millions displaced. A total of 28 nations, representing the coalition of the willing, became the coalition of cowards and murderers. They all descended on Iraq with the best known Man made weapons technology in human history,it should be mentioned that the M-1 abrams tank, the Apache attack helicopter,f-18 super hornets formally viewed as the most deadly, sophisticated Weapons systems in the world. Are all scrap heep and tin metal in the iraqi desert, thoroughly defeated. it was the will of the Iraqi people and low tech ingenius ingenuity, that scored a punishing defeat, against the So call coalition of the willing, which is now the coalition of the blind, crippled and bankrupt Nations! With all their sophisticated weaponry they still got evicted from Iraq, wihtout accomplishing their objectives. An eight year Murderess occupation, with nothing to show for it. So tell me Mr embecil who needs to read a mlitary book now? No one fears the western Imperialist anymore, the world has learned a great lesson from the Iraqi people. Resistance is better than Subjugation.

Mr. Nader, dear sir, please allow this posting. This posting is not ment to insult anyone.

That is so, not true. Fact of the matter is that you dont show it.

Because, you would know that people dont like being ruled by foreigners. You would rather see millions of your people killed, millions of little Iranian children dead and starving, generations of your people wiped out! And decades of unending suffering on a level 20- times worse than you had estimated. All of this just to see the Mullahs go. You saw what Happened in Iraq, didnt you? Furthermore,if Iran was Invaded and the Pahlavi's were restored to power tonight! you would not have a say in any national matters, nor would the Pahlavi's. Because the oil and your homeland would belong to the Americans and the Brits.
You would still be an estranged dissident of the very cause you believe in! some times, good leadership is based on avoiding the worse case scenario of doom!

When I came to work in the afternoon, few hours after Iran's announcement, squawk reported that oil options traders are taking an abnormal amount of call and put positions on both $150/bbl and $50/bbl oil.

That means there is a hightened expectation of either a drastic fall or drastic rise in oil prices that can only be fundamental in nature (i.e. economic, social or political).

That is scary, because futures/options traders are far better at predicting what's going to happen than politicians or journalists.
