The production fell to 241,500 vehicles in the first quarter of the
Iranian year (March 21 to June 20). Iran produced more than 1.5 million
vehicles in the last calendar year. The decline coincides with the halt of
parts deliveries to Iran by French manufacturer Peugeot due to sanctions.
Peugeot is a partner of the main Iranian automaker Iran Khodro (IKCO), which manufactures
the 405 and 206 models in Iran, accounting for approximately 40 percent of
Iranian automobile production.
The head of the Iranian Association of Automobile Manufacturers, Ahmad
Nematbaksh, told ISNA that the drop in production is due to the "lack of
money available to the manufacturers" given by the state, which caused a
"cash crisis."
The business daily Donaye Eghtesad said the decline in production is "unprecedented
in the past 20 years."

Out of context, but I cannot help but mention that the last few doom and gloom postings on this website must have brought smiles to the faces of those who want to see the country ruined by the sanction . But uncomfortable reading for those who care about the country and its people. It is foolish for the west to think that they can impose enough collective punishment on ordinary Iranians that they will somehow channel this to overturn their government. They are just stifling goodwill among ordinary Iranians yearning for political reform.

The last few “doom and gloom” postings reflect the realities on the ground. These are indeed critical months for Iran. The effects or lack of effects of sanctions, especially oil-related, on the Iranian economy is an issue that needs to be looked at carefully; they could determine the future course of events.
On this website, we have posted many articles on IKCO and the bright future of Iran’s auto industry, including coverage of new models when they were introduced, including Dena. We did not post those articles to bring smile to the faces of those who proclaim themselves as people “who care about the country and its people,” nor did we publish them to cause “uncomfortable reading” for those who disagree with you and are accused of “wanting the country ruined by sanctions.” We posed those articles to show the state of auto industry in Iran, including this latest one showing a near-catastrophic drop in production.
