Russian Knights flying over Iran

There are some beautiful pics over at English Russia showing Iranian F-4's and F-14's flying alongside the Russian Knights Sukhoi Su-27 Flanker aerial acrobat demonstration jets which were escorted home by the IRIAF from an air show at Bahrain over Iranian territory.

most interesting photos and most interesting that the Russian planes were merely traversing Iran after taking part in an air show in Bahrain.

Is it just me or does it look like F-14 is sporting an AA missile?

Wouldn't surprise me.

Since their stocks of the lethal AIM-54 Phoenix missile were depleting rapidly in the mid 1980's during the war with Iraq the IRIAF tried to fire MIM-23 Hawk missiles from their F-14's. From what I recall reading they never quite got the project to work as effectively as would be demanded in a combat situation.

@ 7:25 duh, I can't believe that such antique info is still being circulated. Iran produces its own equivalents of AIM-9, AIM-7 and AIM-54.

'IRAN BUILDS ADVANCED AIRCRAFT BLACK BOX'
Wed Feb 1, 2012 7:22AM GMT

Iran has launched the production line of a new domestically-developed version of black box for its fighter jets and military helicopters, Press TV reports.

The production line of the module, named Shahed (Witness), was inaugurated in an official ceremony attended by Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi and Commander of Khatam al-Anbiya Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmaeili in Tehran on Tuesday.

“This is another big step toward self-sufficiency for our defense industries. Shahed system uses new methods of processing and interpretation of images and sound. It can withstand harsh environmental conditions with its international standards,” Brigadier General Vahidi stated.

“The system's flight data recorder can store and process up to 2,200 hours of data and 40 hours of cockpit voice recording. It can also handle 30 cameras in an aircraft cabin, and record up to ten hours of images and audio,” the Iranian defense minister added.

'IRAN ARMY TO UNVEIL NEW AIR
DEFENSE SYSTEMs SOON'
Thu Feb 2, 2012 7:9AM GMT

A top Iranian Army commander has announced the upcoming launch of new air defense systems to boost Iran's aerial defense capabilities.

Tens of radar and missile systems with various ranges have been manufactured and deployed in Iran's defense sector so far and new systems are on their way to join the defense network during the 10-Day Dawn celebrations, which began on February 1 to mark the 33th anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, Brigadier General Farzad Esmaili, the commander of the Army's Khatam al-Anbiya Air Defense Base, announced on Wednesday.

Brig. Gen. Esmaili also pointed out that Iran's scientific and technological progresses, which have irked the arrogant powers, come in the face of US-led sanctions.

However, the Iranian nation will turn the tougher sanctions into opportunities, he stressed.

The Islamic Republic has, however, repeatedly assured that its military might poses no threat to other countries, saying the country's defense doctrine is based on deterrence.

The F-14 is indeed carrying an AA missile. In case you're wondering what type of missile, it's an AIM-7 Sparrow.

Perhaps Paul Iddon should stick to writing fantasy gossip about Iranian political system that comment on military affairs, particularly the F-14A Tomcat (now aptly dubbed the Persian cat due to its complete modification from the original 1979 Long Beach specs).

Just to set the ignorance straight, the IRIAF Persian Cat escorting the Russian Knights SU-27Flankers is the F-14A and unless Paul has magnified thermal vision its is hard to detect the AAM on the Persian cats.

However, the totally modified IRAIF F-14A do carry Iranian made FATTAR (AIM 9X) missiles along with Iranian made AIM-7E Sparrow and upgraded AIM-54A for BVR interception.

A maximum air interdiction payload of the current IRIAF generation of Persian Cats with enhanced ZHUK radars and new combat tree configuration are 6 hardpoints for AIM 54 and 4 for either the FATTAR (AIM 9 Sidewinder) or medium range AIM-7 Sparrow. After magnifying the photo image of the escort Persian cat, it appears to be indeed sporting a AIM-7 Sparrow in twin underwing plylon configuration for quick high-speed interception vectoring (light- weight payload for max speed).

The sky-grey paint scheme of these aircraft also highlight their air-interdiction role rather than the brown and dark brown displaced pattern of the multi-purpose IRIAF F-14A.

These aircraft most likely joined the Russians over the Persian Gulf, operating from TAB-6 (Tactical Airbase) Bushere. Most of the F-14A for GP (General Purpose) duties have now shifted to Esfahan TAB-8.

The pathetic Iran bashers and the Zionist media would probably doubt the existence of IRIAF Persian Cats, let alone acknowledge Iranian mastery of this classic aircraft. IRIAF is the sole operator of the F-14A today.

The paranoid and hatefilled US even junked the remaining USN Tomcats in 2008 so that Iran could not get its hands on spares even in the scrap market.

Iranian slap to the US is its engineering mastery of the whole F-14A, its engines, avionics and weapons systems. Over 50 upgraded Persian cats prouldy defend the Persian skies despite the wishful thinking of its enemies.

For the Farsi speakers here, check out this latest video of Persian cats from TAB-8. These aircraft are on 24/7 scramble alert.

Perhaps you should stick to the Islamic guidance and propaganda ministry by the sound of your comments.
Once again I try to educate you regarding the F14 TOMCAT,not the Persian cats as you keep repeating.

If it wasn't for the good relations Iran had with the West and the US we never would have had the F14 Tomcat the F22 Raptor of its time.
Now this regime can't even buy the old MIG 21 and before anybody says Iran produces its own airplanes they don't produce fighter jets. Those F5 freedom fighters are just that F5s roughly about seven of them.
Iran will just have to do with these museum pieces for years to come so long as this backward regime remains.
Iran is not independent but a colony of China and the slave to Arabian culture.

Has anyone told you that your tone is very similar to Ahmadinejad and nothing like the tone of a religious person. What this Islamic republic managed to do is to expand social misbehavior and rudeness in society.

Why don't you learn to say your opinion in civilized way. Polite and up to the point. Is this the culture your parents raised you? Is the culture Ahmadinejad presented in UN Iranian culture? May be it is!

These regime supporters have no culture.Rude crude ignorant and don't listen to reason no matter what the reality is.These people live and think 1400 years behind everyone else. They are a lost cause and are doomed for the rest of their lives.
SAD.

Reading some of your stuff makes me realize why this revolution had to take place.

It could be that where it led, was not so obvious for some but on the contrary very clear for the others.

We all had our reasons for going out and wanting the shah gone, my reason was the social decadence. Mainly the fact that the elite of Iran used to castrate their servants doing their households and gardens and nannying their children (like people do house dogs and cats). They did not even realize this to be wrong and inhuman.

Mind you all ... same is happening in the Arabian countries with the dif. that their servants don't come from their own villages but from south east Asia.

Time for a revolution there too.

Believe me my friends, time is on Irans side and God is on Irans side. I am not a religous man but I know and feel it.

Iran shall by all means prevail.

Bless you Iran and our hearts beat for you.

You are some sad person indeed.Where did you come up with that tosh about Shah and the ruling class at that time?
You have some wild and twisted imagination or simply an inferiority complex.Maybe you were a servant of one of these families and they treated you well but you decided to stab them in the back. Some Iranians are known to be namak nashnas and you seem one of them.
As long as this anti Iranian Qajarist theocracy exists Iran is a Zombie nation until the day of its liberation by the oppressed and downtrodden people.
You can be sure of that. It's a cast Iron guarantee and I will be here to laugh at people like you.
