Saudi Arabia Warns Iran Over Three Islands

Saudi Arabia today issued a stern warning to Iran that it would not tolerate threats to the sovereignty of the Arab states of the Persian Gulf. The warning comes after recent moves by Iran to reestablish its own sovereignty over the three islands of Abu Musa and Greater and Lesser Tunbs which are strategically situated on the Gulf's shipping lanes.  President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad visited Abu Musa in April and members of the Iranian Majlis were introducing a bill to establish a “Persian Gulf Province” with Abu Musa as its capital. The UAE also claims ownership over the same three islands.

Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Nayef delivered the warning in a speech at a meeting of GCC interior ministers in Riyadh today:

“Any harm that comes across any of our countries is harm that touches us all,” Prince Nayef said.

Nayef also condemned what he called Iran's "occupation" of the three islands and its role in the Bahraini uprising.

“We stress that Saudi Arabia and the rest of the council countries are standing in a unified line with Bahrain and the UAE to protect sovereignty and stability, considering their security a part of the council's security as a whole,” Nayef said.

Saudi foreign minister Prince Saud al-Faisal said in a speech over the weekend that the Arab states of the Persian Gulf are pushing ahead with plans for a political union that would involve joint foreign and defense policies, an idea floated by Saudi King Abdullah last December.

Arab rethoric is very aggressive and hostile. I cant remember the last time Iran treathened the arabs with such words. Looks like they are pushing for a conflict with Iran.

Those cowardly Arab states would have not dare say that if they didn't have the backing of the U.S.

The arab people around the Persian Gulf have been hit with an inferiority complex which has resulted in an inflated ego and pointing fingers on things that never has belonged to them for which they dont have a historical claim. What proof can they bring to the International Court of Arbritration? Nothing of substance. Just manufactured lies, and baseless claims. The only hope for them is that Iran is to some extent isolated, and therefor the International Court of Arbritration might be influenced by allied powers (US, Britain and so forth) to vote in favor of the UAE, and give them all the benefits. We know how corrup the UN is, and how they take orders from the US and the EU powers, so i dont think the International Court of Arbritration is immune to such dirty tactics.

Indeed Saudi Arabia and the other arab nations in the region have a right to stand against the Shi'i persian iranian state that has been spreading its forces in the region, like yemen, lebanon and now working on bahrain.

Saudi Arabia and it's allies in the region have a right to defend themselves from a Shi'i persian threat spreading it's forces in the region like in yemen, lebanon and now in bahrain. I ask God to aid them in these efforts.

Please stop spreading lies! There is no evidence of Iranian meddling in Yemen and Bahrain. Even the CIA officials acknowledge that.

This is a non issue because this was settled in 1971 as regards the islands and Bahrain.
If they want the islands back then Iran by right should claim Bahrain back as simple as that.
Unfortunately this theocracy which rules Iran at present has made a hash up of Iranian sovereignty.
One good example is the Caspian Sea of which 50% belonged to Iran at one time but this incompetent theocracy after the downfall of soviet union made a deal and was left with only 13%.
Same goes with these three islands. The theocracy will give them away in a deal so that it could survive for a few more years down the line and continue with its bloodsucking ways.

That is what I fear about that regime by giving away chunks of Iran for their survival.
The Qajars did the same thing by selling bits of Iran as well as losing parts of Iran to the Russian empire.
Iran was in a right state of affairs before Reza Shah came and saved Iran from the Qajars and mullahs. But unfortunately he didn't stay in power long enough to finish those free loaders the mullahs off.
And now the free loaders have power and are milking the country to death with their oppression and lies.
God save Iran from these thieving lying fanatical barbaric no good mullahs and their minions in Iran as well as abroad.

The Tor-M1 (SA-15) missile systems, currently fielded by the Iranians, are hardly antiquated. Even if they manage to break down their defenses, the Iranians can still strike back at them.

Utter nonsense talk of awar to divert attention from the disintegration of Saidi Arabia and Bahrain becoming a Republic.

As Napolean use to say...Want to unite a country falling apart ?? start an external war !

(Dont want any reactions from anti Iranian Ex Iranians with words like "Regime" and "Mulla" and other nasty words !°!1.. when i see those words I stop reading, because I know there is no objectivity there.)

TOR-M1 is a short range missile. The rest of the Iranian missile systems are SAM 6 or Chinese copies and are antiquated with no AWACS cover.
Forget it,Islamic regimes defenses are all right for a 1970s war not for the 21st century.

That's why your here for and will be getting a reaction.
You're right Dariush, the word mullah and regime are nasty words and that is because they are very nasty people who are running that regime.
So putting your head deep into the sand won't change those facts.

Dariush,I hate the Islamic theocracy and I live in Iran.So how can I be an "anti Iranian ex Iranian" when a nut job like you live in good old London England supporting the Islamic phobic from its rear end?

I believe US military planners do not share in your optimism and disregard for Iran's defence systems. If anything, they've been trying and pushing their politicians to avoid war with Iran at all cost. Don't be fooled by all the "all options on the table" you hear on TV..It's just for people like you.

Iran has more reason to hit back at Al Saud and her minions for their support of Saddam during the Iran-Iraq war. The Saudis shouldn't push their luck. They're using this as a cover to divert people attention from the revolution that's going to hit them soon.

Heck, they don't even trust their own people to handle their massively imported US weapons so they hire foreigners to do that job. You expect these guys to last in a war for years? There's a reason they use US protection. Go figure ;)

Every Iranian knows to keep quiet when living in the terrorist theocracy,so why is that impossible?

You have been listening to Press TV to much. And people like you believe their crap.
Iran has only one thing up its sleeve and that is the scud based missile that can hit Saudi oil complexes.
But also remember that the US will destroy the oil complexes and infrastructure of Iran with their much more accurate and powerful submarine based missiles.
If you believe for one moment that Iran will win a future conflict in the Persian gulf, then you need to read some books regarding this matter.

Anon 11:57 AM.......Since when are mullahs and their lackeys considered as Iranian let alone ex Iranian you comedian?

Anonymous said...

I am not an Iranian but I support the current regime....well, to some extent. I think generally the regime is good for fostering real independence of the country, withour which no real development can take place.
Other issues like the regime's intolerance etc all these can be solved by the Iranians over a time. In fact, most of these are caused by being under the siege. Once the impelialists give up and let Iran live the way it wants, believe me, the Mullahs will relax, they will have to.
Problem is, many Iranians abroad have been brainwashed and they want to enjoy 'good life'now before they sacrifice for their real independence. Remember, even the West, it is where it is after many sacrifices and ammendments. Just 90 years ago women were not allowed even to vote in many European countries...let alone gays (if that is what you miss)!

My friend if you're not Iranian and support this theocracy then the solution is simple,go and live in Iran and see what a fascist Islamist system the Iranian people have to put up with and then come back and say you support the IRI or not.
It's easy being a supporter from afar.
And one more thing, this theocracy is not independent because their masters are in Beijing,Moscow and London.
