Mullen on Iran Options

Admiral Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, appearing today on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” said allowing Iran to develop a nuclear weapon was “unacceptable” and he had a plan to attack Iran if needed to prevent it. The admiral added, however, that he was “extremely concerned” about the possible repercussions of such an attack for its "unintended consequences that are difficult to predict in what is an incredibly unstable part of the world” [NBC, 1 August].

Mullen said he hoped that a combination of international diplomacy and sanctions against Iran would lead Tehran to suspend its uranium enrichment program, hence no Iranian nuclear weapons and no need for US military action.

US military also has a plan to invade Cuba, Canada, Mexico, North Korea and just about every nation for the past 65 years. Most of these simulated "war gaming" has not been that effective or really "shock and awed" anyone in real-execution on the actual battlefield. The increasing quagmires in Iraq and Af-Pak should be timely reminders.

The fact of the matter is that the US military is broken, inept and has been exposed as a Paper Tiger. US economy is bankrupt as China rapidly takes the global helm at US expense and weakness. While the US economy shrinks under the burden of lost wars and mountains of pilong debt, China is expected to control over 50% of global manufacturing and trade by 2020 if not earlier.

Most of these statements regarding an "imminent" military strike on Iran have been a broken record since 1979, the tempo of these hollow threats normally picks up according to the rhythm of AIPAC/Zionist maestro. In effect they are nothing but very cheap propaganda, media stunts and psy-ops.

The last thing an imploding US needs is a shooting war with Iran that has been preparing for such a highly improbable and insane contingency for the past 32 years. Iran has prepared its defensive doctrine on asymmetrical warfare over the whole region and lasting for a generation.

The current US force stucture, fiscal insolvency, socio-economic meltdown and impending doom in Af-Pak simply does not allow for a regional or global war of attrition. The pathetic state of US military and its intelligence capability can be gleaned from the wikileaks. US simply does have even sophomoric "intelligence" on Iran to commit such a grave folly.

Starting a war against a large, well prepared and nationalistic nation like Iran would make even Vietnam look like child's play, since 40% of global energy did not pass through the Gulf of Tonkin or South China seas. The energy infrastructure of the whole Persian Gulf and Arabian peninsula is within Iranian artillery range, not to mention the robust missile forces that would certainly be unleashed.

The vulnerability of the deadbeat US economy and even global economy should not be understated in such a precarious scenario, with millions of Americans losing jobs, homes and living on food stamps, a war with Iran is definately the last nail in the coffin of total US collapse and unleash forces that would be impossible to contain.

These daily reports and threats of a strike on Iran by either the US or its insane Zionist barking mutt should be taken with a heavy grain of salt.

Head of the US State Department's Iran desk, John Limbert, has resigned from his post due to disillusionment with the Obama administration's "outreach" to Tehran.

US President Barack Obama assigned the retired diplomat, who was one of the 52 Americans held captive in Tehran following the 1979 Revolution, to the Iran desk nine months ago.

"The Obama administration has been in office now for over a year and a half and I think everyone thought we would be in a better place with Iran," Limbert told NPR on Saturday -- one day after stepping down.

He added that few current US officials understand the Iranian culture and speak the language, describing three decades of hostility as "ghosts" impeding diplomatic dialogue.

Obama named Philo L. Dibble as Limbert's successor. Analysts have viewed the change as a shift in Washington's Iran policy.

The resignation comes amid a standoff over Iran's nuclear program over accusations that Tehran is pursuing a military nuclear program.

Iran rejects the allegation, arguing that as a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty it has the right to peaceful nuclear technology.

In line with measures adopted by the US, the European Union, Canada and Australia on Monday imposed unilateral sanctions against Iran's energy industry.

The new sanctions come one month after the UN Security Council approved a US-drafted sanctions resolution targeting the country's financial and military sectors.

Recent reports, however, suggest the US and Israel are preparing for an attack on the Islamic Republic.

The chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen told NBC on Sunday that the US military is prepared to attack Iran and stop it from building "weapons." Mullen, however, expressed concern about the possible repercussions of such a strike.

On Friday, a Jerusalem-based open intelligence source website reported that Israel is currently simulating attacks on Iran's nuclear facilities.

The military drills dubbed "Blue Sky 2010," are underway in Romania.

Not that their stooge Ban Ki-moon or the UNSC would ever take action against the US or Israel but threats of military strike are a violation of Article 2 paragraph 4 in the UN Charter

...and we're not talking about a minor regime change threat here (as was the case with the Ahmedinejad "wiping off the map" speech).
