Public unveiling of Fateh-313 short-range ballistic missile

On 22AUG15 during Defense Industry Day in Tehran, a ceremony was held at IAIO to publicly unveil the Fateh-313 ("Conqueror-313") short-range ballistic missile.

This is the first unveiling of new Iranian ballistic missile technology since the signing of JCPOA. It follows Iranian parliamentary and military official calls for ballistic missile exercises, presumably intended as a show of force in defiance of JCPOA sanctions-related compromises and UNSC resolution restrictions agreed upon by the Rouhani administration.

Claimed range for the 6th generation solid-propellant Fateh-series SRBM is 500 km, giving the new variant an intended comparable range and sought-after accuracy of Iskander-M (NATO: SS-26 Stone) mobile SRBM system.

Fateh-313 appears to be feature composite materials, providing a lighter weight than previous variants. MODAFL claims the new variant"runs on combined solid fuel using a domestically-designed sensor" and has "been previously test-fired and successfully hit targets". MODAFL further states the Fateh-313 is intended for serial production.

IRGC-ASF takes mass delivery of latest Iranian ballistic missile types

According to MODAFL and Iranian media sources, in a ceremony attended by Iranian Minister of Defense IRGC Brigadier General Dehgan, the IRGC-ASF has accepted mass delivery of Ghadr-H MRBMs and Qiam SRBMs (claimed capable of MRV payloads), as well as Fateh-110-D SRBMs and Khalij Fars ASBMs.

There can be no doubt that this publicized delivery, in addition to the defense-related publicity last week involving no less than President Rouhani, is a direct response to U.S. inclusion of ballistic missiles in the ongoing nuclear talks. Iranian officials have publicly pushed back on this inclusion, as is further evident with this latest publicity.

In addition to ballistic missiles, the Iranians are also claiming a mass delivery to IRIADF of Mersad air defense systems.

Israeli Jets Attack Damascus

Targeting Fateh-110 Missiles 

Israeli warplanes struck areas in and around the Syrian capital Sunday, setting off a series of explosions as they targeted a shipment of Iranian-made guided missiles believed to be on their way to Lebanon's Hezbollah, CBS reported today. The attack, the second in three days, signaled a sharp escalation of Israel's involvement in Syria's bloody civil war.

The target of both attacks, on Friday and Sunday, were Fateh-110 missiles, which have precision guidance systems with better aim than anything Hezbollah is known to have in its arsenal. (AP/CBS, 5 May)

Reports from Damascus indicate the latest attack occurred around 3 a.m. “Damascus shook,” said an eyewitness. (CBS, 5 May)

In Tehran, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast condemned Israeli airstrikes against Syria and urged countries in the region to remain united against Israel.

The Fateh-110, or Conqueror, is a short-range solid-fuel ballistic missile developed by Iran and first put into service in 2002. An upgraded version was unveiled in 2012 with improved accuracy and increased range to 185 miles.

Iran Unveils Fourth-Generation Fatah-110 Missile

Iran unveiled upgrades to six weapons on Tuesday, including the fourth-generation Fateh-110 short-range ballistic missile. The upgraded missile has a range of about 300 km (180 miles).

"This missile is one of the most precise and advanced land-to-land ballistic missiles using solid fuel," said Defense Minister Brig. Gen. Ahmad Vahidi. (Fars News Agency, 21 August)
