The Iranian auto industry is on track to produce 1.5 million cars during the current Iranian calendar year, the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Trade reported today [Mehr News Agency, 11 August].
In the first four months of the year (21 March to 22 July), the carmakers have produced 503,997 units, including 438,102 passenger cars, an increase of 2% over same period last year. 54,764 pick-up trucks, 9,186 trucks, 966 minibuses, and 742 buses were also manufactured during the period.
Iran Khodro Company (IKCO)'s CEO Javad Najmeddin told reporters in Tehran that the automaker, the country's largest, planned to increase its production to 730,000 vehicles a year by the end of 2011 and raise the volume of its exports to more than 600,000 cars by the end of 2016 [Press TV, 11 August].

How soviet are Iranian cars? 0% because Iran never assembled let alone manufacture any Automobiles from Russia(USSR). The modern Iranian Auto industry is based on French technology transfers during the 1990's.

Iran's auto industry's really growing despite all the sanctions.After the US threatened TOYOTA not to sell cars to Iran because somehow,according to state department logic,it has a link to Iran's nuclear program. This void is only filled by Iran's auto industry.
I even heard they're now pressuring a Japanese heavy duty construction vehicle company to pull out of Iran because their product is used by Iran for hanging people...Unbelievable...
Let the people to import their cars (Without a £100% duty on it) and see how many of these junks and death traps the Iranians will buy.
This Iranian auto Industry is a monoploy and the poor people have no choice (If they don't want to ride donkeys) than to buy these piece of Junks.
Why should Iran not apply
tariffs on Imports from foreign contries ( who have no qualms about applying ever stricter sanctions that hurt the Iranian people)to help promote its own indiginous industries? As for safty maybe the Iranian population should also take some responsibility for them selves and use thier seatbelts and not drive like complete as though they have a death wish!

My favourite Iranian car in the mid 1970s was the IRAN CHEVROLET of Iran made by GM IRAN at the time it was an Iranian version Opel Record.I had a black one with cream interior.Also had a white Aria Shaheen an Iranian version of the American Rambler went like the clappers.Use to go up to Vanak into the open drive in cinema with my girlfriend in the late evenings and eat joojeh kabob with bastanee for afters. I am not telling you the rest this was in Iran of the 1970s!
Arya Shaheen, quick good looking cars. We had one too. Only brakes were not very good.

We had a white one. I have found memories of it too. My uncle had one too. I think they put the same engine in "Ahuye Biaban" too which was a much heavier car but still quick. If I remeber right you just had three gears (I was not driving back then, but I did drive it "shomal" in secluded areas) and it went like hell. I also remember the Iran Chev.

Sherkate Sahami built Ramblers
From 1967 to 1974, the 1966 version of the AMC Rambler American was assembled by the Sherkate Sahami Jeep company in Iran. The American was offered in two trim levels as Aria (sometimes spelled "Arya") and Shahin.[49] The Aria was a more luxurious version that came with a 3-speed automatic transmission, while the Shahin was the base model with a manual transmission. The engine used was AMC's 195.6 cu in (3.2 L) inline-six producing 128 hp (95 kW; 130 PS).[50] The cars were available with factory air conditioning, a unique feature for the Iranian market during that time.
The Aria and Shahin were assembled under the license of AMC by Pars Khodro starting in 1967.[51] The factory in Tehran was dedicated by the last Shah of Iran.[52] Five-year projections called for the Pars Khodro plant to build 75,000 Rambler Americans.[52] The target was the upper and middle classes that had grown prosperous under the Shah.[53] The Arya and Shahin versions of the Rambler American, as well as the Jeep Aho (Grand Wagoneer), "were among the best domestically produced vehicles."[54]
Production was continued by the Iran Jeep Company plant in Tehran. The Iran Jeep Company (Sherkate Sahami) formed a new company called General Motors Iran Ltd. in June 1972,[50] and after production of Rambler Americans ended in early 1974, they continued to produce selected Opel Rekord, Chevrolet Nova and Pickup, Buick Skylark, and Cadillac Seville models from 1974 until 1987.

That is right my one was the Aria version with the 3 speed automatic transmission and 3.2L engine with air con the full works !
Funny you should say about your uncle having a white one my uncle had a Rambler 1964 two door hardtop in white with red interior! He had that car for years even after revolution.
I recall most were white and a lot of dark blue ones as well also kerayea taxi radio controlled cars used a lot of them as did the armed forces.
Yes I know those secluded areas very well its a matter of life or death when you have your love with you !

They also produced Chevrolet Nova
Buick Skylark and Cadillac Seville the Cadillac being the only one to be built outside of US.

Thanks for information and time given. When I bought my Aria in 1975 it was second hand and cost me 25000 toman and belong to NIOC there was a cheaper manual model as well in blue but I chose the white one instead.
I can still remember as if yesterday when I drove that car out of NIOC car park all washed and waxed by company employee with nearly full tank of petrol!
