Rouhani in Tajikistan

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani visited Tajikistan today and held talks with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon in Dushanbe. The two president also took part in inauguration ceremony of a second power generating unit at an Iranian-funded hydroelectric plant in the country.

Iran to Build Hydropower Plant in Tajikistan


Iran will soon start constructing Ayni hydroelectric power station on the Zarafshan River in Tajikistan, Iran's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said on Friday during his visit to Tajik capital of Dushanbeh. (IRNA, 28 March)


Iranian engineers have developed a feasibility study for the 240-megawatt hydroelectric power station. Iranians have already built another hydroelectric power plant over the Vakhsh River in Tajikistan. That project will be formally inaugurated later this week.

Iran, Afghan and Tajik Presidents Meet in Dushanbe

The presidents of Iran, Tajikistan and Afghanistan have signed agreements on expanding transit routes linking the three countries. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Afghan President Hamid Karzai and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon met during the fifth trilateral summit in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, on Sunday. They also attended Norouz ceremonies in the Tajik capital.

Iran Defense Minister in Dushanbe, Tajikistan

Iran Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi arrived in Dushanbe, for talks with Tajikistan Defense Minister General Shir-Ali Kheirollahev. Signing is planned of a memorandum of understanding on defense.

"Iran and Tajikistan have shared histories, shared languages and shared cultures, based on which we enjoy very good comprehensive relations in defense, political, economic and cultural fields" stated Defense Minister Vahidi, upon his arrival.

First International Norouz Celebration in Tehran
