Fourth Quake Hitting Iran in Ten Days
A 5.0-magnitude earthquake
hit southern Iran at 2:11 a.m. on Saturday 20 April (5:41 p.m. EST on Friday),
the USGS reported. The epicenter was 57 km (35 miles) from Kish, a major island at
the mouth of the Persian Gulf. No reports of casualties were available at this
time.
Kish earthquake is the fourth
tremor hitting Iran in the past ten days. A 6.3-magnitude quake shook Bushehr
on 9 April, followed by a 7.8-magnitude earthquake hitting Baluchistsn on both
sides of the border between Iran and Pakistan. On Thursday, a 5.3-magnitude
tremor hit Iranian Azerbaijan.
