Iran to Build Canal Linking Caspian to Central Desert

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will participate in a foundation-laying ceremony on Tuesday to build a canal linking the Caspian Sea in the north to the central arid provinces of Semnan, Yazd and Kerman, Fars News reported. The $10 billion project will direct 500 million cubic meters of seawater to those provinces that border the Kavir-e Namak or Great Salt Desert. IRGC’s Khatam al-Anbia construction company is in charge of the project.
