Natural gas flow to Turkey from Iran was cut off on Thursday after an
explosion disabled the Iran-Ankara BOTAS pipeline. The pipeline carries 27
million cubic meters of gas per day, Turkey’s Energy Ministry reported.
The explosion occurred around 0200 local time Thursday between the
villages of Hidirli and Kalender in Turkey's Eastern province of Agri, at the
border with Iran. The Turkish authorities said repairs to the pipeline would
take approximately five days.
Russia’s OAO Gazprom said today it plans to increase natural-gas exports
to Turkey to compensate for the deficit. (Dow Jones Newswire)
