EU Sanctions Against Iran Oil Unlikely – Oil Minister

Iran’s Oil Minister Rostam Qasemi said today that the EU will not impose sanctions on the country’s oil exports. Qasemi’s comments came in response to the calls by the EU leaders for more sanctions against Iran by the end of January.

“Our policy is sustainable supply of oil to Europe. Iran is a major oil producer and any sanctions on our oil export will definitely harm the global market,” Qasemi said [IRNA, 11 December].

But Qasemi conceded that the EU could actually impose sanctions against Iran oil.

“We have no problem to find a replacement for the EU oil market and we can easily replace the European market,” Qasemi said.
