IRGCN’s Deterrence Dissuades Enemy Attack - Commander

IRGC Navy's deterrence strategy dissuades the enemies of Iran from any military confrontation in the Persian Gulf, the IRGCN commander said today.

“With the materialization of the IRGC Navy's deterrence strategy, enemies... are heavily afraid of a military confrontation with us in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz,” said Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi. [IRNA/Press TV, 17 August]

Adm. Fadavi added that Iran's naval deterrence measures up to the type and size of potential threats. He said the enemies have understood that “any hostile action [against Iran] will be met with a regrettable and crushing response.”

“Having taken a series of measures in hardware and software sectors, we have made the enemy believe that threatening national interests and security of the Islamic Republic of Iran will be ensued by threats [posed] to the national interests and security of aggressors," said Fadavi.

The strategic Strait of Hormuz is IRGCN’s area of responsibility. About 15 million barrels of oil flow through Hormuz every day, making it one of the most important shipping lanes.

  1. the mighty mouse that is the Iranian Navy is plenty powerful enough to deter Somali pirates, but is pitifully weak in comparison to real navies and wouldn't last more than a day or two

I don't think the US navy agrees with you..I'd recommend you to read their report and assessment of Iran's naval capabilities before you make such sweeping statement. We shouldn't let our blind hatred of the "regime" cloud our every judgement on reality.

Bottom line is, the US navy wouldn't want to get into a shooting fight with Iran in the Persian Gulf..Now go read some book!!!

    2. The US also claimed that Saddam's Republican Guard were formidable.Their "reports" are written to give a false sense of confidence to the enemy.

  2. Does he not remember what a much older version of the u.s. navy did to iran's essentially current navy in 1988? They destroyed every ship that looked at them in the wrong way and could have sink the entire iranian Navy if they so wished.

    1. You are very sick child with a delusionally vivid imagination. During Preying Mantis only ONE Iranian FAC was sunk and other Sabalan damaged and later fully repaired. Do you think that most people are uneducated exaggerating anti-Iran IDIOTS like yourself?

Theres little comparison between the remnants of the shahs navy from 1988 and the current iri naval forces and their capabilities, even a blind man should be able to see that

    3. All those "capabilities" in the present navy are due to the "remnants of the shahs navy".Now go and suck a lollipop you silly boy.

    4. Bache Basijis dont want to admit that he laid the foundation for the Iranian Army , Navy , and Air force and without him the Iranian armed forces would be as formidable as the Afghan Army now.

Back in 1988 iran did not have its submarine fleet, its cruise missile launching fast attack craft fleet.its semi-submersibles,it had only the harpoon antiship missile, the sea killer and had only just started to operate the chinese silkworm from a handful of fixed sites, this is in stark contrast to the arsenal of types that iran operates today with capabilities ranging from tens of kilometers to hundreds, from subsonic to supersonic, from fixed sites and mobile launchers. The navy that iran now possess was created in the aftermath of the iran iraq war because of the lessons learned in that conflict it has little in common with the navy that the shah wanted to build back in the 70s

    6. For your information sonny the Imperial Navy was in the process of recieving twenty to twenty five newly built German submarines.Iran was also training submariners in the US.The FACT remains that it takes a number of years to train a officer. It also takes a number of years to gain experience in their choosen field. So the Iranian navy today(not the basiji Hesbollahi block heads who operate speed boats)was created by officers of the "remnants of the shahs navy".
Note:For its time Iran had a very modern navy.So to say,"little in common with the navy that the shah wanted to build back in the 70s",is very naive. The Iranian navy today operates a large amount of the old "remnants of the shahs" naval ships as platforms and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

    7. ANON August 22 at 7:08 am-a perfect western brainwashed lad who refuses to learn!!

your argument that 'the imperial navy was in the process of receiving twenty to twenty five newly built German submarines' and that Iran was training submariners in the US is not only'is not only true but that it is a well known tactic the US has been doing to 'own' any bright mind in the globe to suit her cause.

@-so owning the twenty five submarines from Germany according to you makes Iran a superpower in the region !when will you learn even Turkey has the biggest standby NATO force beside having a free access to all modern tool in the est defense industries and yet we all know it military position!-a joke of a military always humiliated by Israel.

@-i think your fixed into believing that Any GOOD NAVY has to be trained by the US! as if the west has the only best Navy in the world!these German super submarines might have ended up in Libya and other high tech tools! but we know what happened to Libya when the west decided time is up for that African Arab Nation.

@-BELIEVE IT had had it not been the revolution, then Iran would wait its turn to be razed as we have seen among Muslim Nation!,the SWEET west would seek any accuses to attach that country their eyes fixed on killing the awesome military machine they HAD BUILD for the Iranian Nation!.

@1.Look up on youtube... First Iranian submarine

@3.Look up on youtube...Imperial navy submarine gradution ceremony

@3.Also look up the navy web site...www.shahyad.net

Iran ordered 6 German Type 209 submarines which would have lead to more orders.
Iran also ordered 3 Tang class US submarines.

Fact the British and US navies are the best trained in the world. The US operates the biggest and best technological navy in the world.Followed by Britain.

Russian navy are dismal in comparison.China are light years behind. And North Korea is a floating junk yard.

And Iran still uses the ships that the Imperial government had bought for the navy.

Like brother B.M.A. said, Iran (military)would be razed or used against their own people, like it happens around in the neighbouring countries...

Morover, Iran was planned by the NATO as a staging point and a sacrificial victim, in case of the WW III, for its insane plans and provocations during the cold war...

Those false friends assumed that Iran teritory will be a buffer zone and a field of first nuclear strikes, so they will have time, due to their distances from the battle zone, to mitigate their country's losses...

Just to remind you the Soviet Union used to border Iran and those arms were needed to protect the national security of the country against people like Saddam. Also the present regime is easily using its armed goons against its own people like they do in Syria and Bahrain. So what the hell are you trying to prove?

    6. Actually on a rare occasion, I would agree, the mullahs suit the west as they impede Iran from reaching its true potential. Just like the US/UK support the Egyptian and Pakistani militaries to stifle "democracy" and also prop-up the most repressive corrupt Saudis and the Persian Gulf petro-puppets. Imagine a truly pluralistic and open Iranian democracy combined with the human resources and natural wealth of Iran?
