Iran sanctions result in huge downturn for Renault

Above: Pars Khodro production line of Renault Megane

 According to the BBC:
French carmaker Renault has reported a huge fall in profits for the first half of 2013 after writing off the entire value of its business in Iran.
Net income for the six months to June fell 87% to 97m euros ($129m; £83.7m), down from 774m euros a year earlier, a statement said.
The firm took a 512m-euro charge after halting its activities in Iran because of international sanctions imposed over the country's nuclear programme.
Sanctions are a two-way street. In place of European (and potentially American) cars, Iran is importing and assembling Chinese models.

Without sanctions, carmakers such as Renault and GM would be making considerable profits with Iranian commerce. Boeing would be manufacturing and selling more airplanes; General Electric would be building ten more nuclear reactors, etc, etc.

Imagine what peace and rapprochement with Iran would mean to American economic recovery, and the American employment it could generate.

  1. What a joke! China was building bicycles whan Iran was building cars. Now due to total stupidity of mullahs and their "donkeys" in charge,Iran is importing and assembling Chinese junk. The apologists like to blame the sanctions on the West. But in reality it is the self inflicted IRI which is responsible for the economic and political problems of the country. No doubt some third rate turd will slip in a derogatory comment against what I wrote.

    2. Typicaly stupid answer from a IRI sponsored cappuccino drinking lovely and misguided lover of the regime.
If you had any idea, you would know by now that the Iranian economy was well ahead of China before 1979 suicide. Before the self inflicted 1979 suicide sponsored by the CIA,MI6 and KGB Iran had a slogan called "The Great Civilization" to take the country forward into the future. After the suicide of 1979 the Chinese copied Iranian idea and came up with the slogan "The Great Leap Forward" to modernize China. Not only China but also Persian gulf "countries" have taken Shah's ideas and made little "country" like Qatar and UAE one of the most powerful economies and trading centers of the world. That's why so many Iranians try to live there in the UAE.Do you see any of the Qatari and UAE citizens queue to go to Iran? Of course not because Iran's economy is in ruins with over seventy five per cent poverty(regime sources)and forty five per cent or more unemployment.
After all when there is no jobs or future (like North Korea) what's the point of having missiles and uranium because you can't eat missiles and uranium can you?

Silly boy, country like USA is a high tek country. It can afford to out source to country like China.Iran needs to industrialize and manufucture the types of products that the Chinese have taken over.Iran was much more advanced than China but because of the jokers and idiots that ride people like you, have lead the country to poverty and ruin.Iran's currency is lower than Afghanistan's and even North Korea's.

  2. more contemptible fanboy rubbish.

the sanctions are seriously constricting the Iranian economy and the silly person sees some trivial economic harm to a European company that was doing business in Iran and the fanboy gets all happy.

    so silly.

the sanctions are punches to the face of Iran and the fanboy sees that the Europeans have scrapes in their knuckles and he thinks that this is evidence of how the Europeans are suffering from the sanctions.

    so very silly

    and dishonest.

    1. Actually Mark makes an excellent point Sanctions cut both ways and at a time when the europeans needed all the trade they could get they`ve thrown away billions of dollars and decades of business relationships all on the say so of the us,what fools, meanwhile china has moved in and taken europes place. The saddest and most sickening thing is that here we see two malcontents,or perhaps one malcontent posting twice, taking joy in irans problems,I`d also hardly call a half billion euro loss a scrape on ones knuckle for a firm like renault, more like a kick in the guts and thats just one company,I wonder what the total euro cost to the europeans of the sanctions has been not just in lost profits but the extra countries like greece has to pay for oil without irans discount

    2. Anon 9:49.....You should know the meaning of the word "malcontent" when you support a malicious and discontented regime in power in Iran.

      Delete
    3. That makes no sense, there is nothing "discontented" about the government of the iri, indeed the turnout at the last election shows that there is widespread support for irans democracy amongst its people, now I know for a malcontent like yourself accepting facts like this is anathema but that doesnt make them any less true

    4. Yes there is so much "widespread support for Irans democracy amongst its people" that they are willing to die by becoming a Boat Refugees to Papua New Guinea.

    5. What are you smoking,at the very least read a history book, the people you`re talking about were vietnamese and that was back in the late 70s-early 80s and there wasnt a single iranian in sight,I would`ve thought evan a hasbara shill would know the difference between iranians and vietnamese

You need to do more research instead of trying to act clever by insulting.Yes the Vietnamese were boat people in the seventies and eighties but now the Iranians have gladly taken their place in the front queue to strive for a more hopeful and prosperous life.Because under the present religious theocracy run by malicious zealots and bigots the Iranian people have no future in their own country and because of that they aim for countries like Australia via Papua New Guinea.

    7. Yeah sure they do,do you have a little thing like facts or figures to back up your "boat people" assertion?

    9. So I take it you cannot back up your assertions with any proof, well I kind of have to say I thought so

As opposed to the traitorous exiles residing in those same places rubbing their hands with glee whenever they hear that the "impending doom" of the iri is just around the corner,of course they`ve been saying that for over 30 years now still hoping that maybe this year or the next or the next or the....

    16. Don't worry about the time of IRI "impending doom" sun shine because IRI will break its own neck by its own hands. That's what happens when you have ignorant thieves, liars, killers and traitors occupying the country.LOL!

    17. You`ve been singing that same song for 30+ years and in that time the iri has gone from strength to strength, and it will still be here long after you`ve died of old age and they`ve buried you in an american cemetery

    18. You think that it bothers me by being buried in a American cemetary? What matters is what you've done in this world that you will be judged by.And looking at the record of the Islamic regime and their minions it doesn't look very promising for you.So better start sitting next to a blast furnace for practice!

  4. Mark, fortunately the Europeans see a more important issue at stake here, than money.
It is also a very strong signal to the IRI , especially in this time of Economic recession in Europe, that they are taking the sanctions very seriously even if it hurts their company's profits. Ultimately the biggest looser will be the Iranians, by buying rubbish products from China and being taken for a RIDE by them.
By the way Bushehr power plant will "soon" be ready. Hopefully by 2050 !!

If that wasnt so pathetic it would almost be funny. What is the "important issue" perhaps you could tell us?.The europeans arent doing this by choice, interestingly tho` the european courts seem to be on irans side when it comes to the legality of the sanctions,as for whether or not chinas products are rubbish only time will tell, but the us and europe seem to be fairly happy with a lot of them. What have the europeans gained from the sanctions?,only the loss of billions of euro which I`m sure the us will not compensate them for one iota, but hey I`m sure obama will give them a pat on the back.

    1. Stopping your masters from getting the bomb. They won't, because the Americans will bomb them to the dark middle ages, if the sanctions don't get them to come to their senses.

    2. And where is the proof of this "bomb" program?,there isnt one thats why.But if iran did want the bomb there would be nothing the west could do about it

  6. EU under Zionist control is cutting its long Gallic nose, despite its ugly face. French real unemployment is running at around 20% and the economy is in recession. These stupid sanctions only hurt the French and other US/Zionist poodles. Iran will get by fine by domestic manufacturing, innovation and import substitution, however, the EU idiots would have lost a lucrative market of 80 million. Russia, China, India and Brazil would be happy to fill the gap.
