Larijani Meets Syrian PM, Defends Assad Regime

Speaker of Iranian Majlis Ali Larijani held talks with visiting Syrian Prime Minister Wael Nader al-Halqi and later told reporters that Iran hails the Syrian regime for refusing “to bow to Western plots and threats.”

“The resistance of the people and government of Syria against foreign plots is admirable,” Larijani said. “Democracy cannot be brought into a country through assassination and weapons.” (IRNA, 16 January)
