Iran Will Be Nuclear Armed by 2014 – MI6

Britain's foreign intelligence (MI6) chief John Sawers said in a rare public speech in London that Iran will become armed with nuclear weapons within two years. The Daily Telegraph broke the news on Friday.

Sawers also said that the MI6 agents had foiled Iran's attempts to produce a nuclear weapon as long as four years ago.

"You'd have Iran as a nuclear weapons state in 2008 rather than still being two years away in 2012," Sawers said.

When Iran does finally acquire nuclear status, the MI6 chief warned that Israel and the US "would face huge dangers".

"I think it will be very tough for any prime minister of Israel or president of the United States to accept a nuclear-armed Iran," Sir John suggested.

  1. How many times have British sources made this claim over the past 29 or so years? Janes reported way back when it would take place in '83. And when it doesn't happen, the claim is simply pushed forward. This newest claim by an MI6 official is particularly interesting as it contradicts the consensus of our own American intelligence community.

Same applies to the Iranian ICBM. Remember back in the early 00's when Western sources were claiming a gigantic Shahab-6 was in the works and would appear in a couple of years? Now the date is pushed forward, as it always is, to 2015--maybe.

This is not about the truth or something; the truth did not save Saddam a$$; did it? What is worrisome about the current situation is that there is no effort for coming to a compromised solution by either side ...

  3. from an article by Scott Peterson at the Christian Science Monitor:

1992: Israeli member of parliament Binyamin Netanyahu predicts that Iran was “3 to 5 years” from having a nuclear weapon.

1992: Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres predicts an Iranian nuclear warhead by 1999 to French TV.

1995: The New York Times quotes US and Israeli officials saying that Iran would have the bomb by 2000.

1998: Donald Rumsfeld tells Congress that Iran could have an intercontinental ballistic missile that could hit the US by 2003.

We are in 2012 and all these predictions were wrong and for political reasons, why is this one should be considered any different?

  4. Of course it is important to know if the MI6 chief’s assertion that his agency had stopped an Iranian nuclear weapon program is true or not. But I believe that is not as important as the fact that he gave the speech in the first place: why did he say what he said now? MI6 chiefs are not in the habit of giving public speeches, let alone talking about particular operations publicly, and in this case trying to predict the future behavior of the Israeli PM or US president. Is his forceful assertion that Iran was attempting to make the bomb and will be in a position to make it within two years a way to solicit supports among the ruling elites in the UK and the US for a military operations against Iran’s nuclear sites? That’s the important question here.

  5. You are all missing the point.

Unsubstantiated, Britain's spy chief, John Sawers, of M16, told a gathering of senior civil servants in London that his agents foiled an Iranian attempt to produce a nuclear weapon as long as four years ago (2008). Without elaborating any further, he said: “You'd have Iran as a nuclear weapons state in 2008 rather than still being two years away in 2012.”

What is very illuminating about this report is that the Brits are acknowledging that Iran has the technical capacity to build a bomb as far back as 2008! It is no longer a question of know-how, it is a matter of choice.

The choice was made in 2010. Everything else is moot.

    2Cold.

  6. @ Mark Pyruz----I would be quite grateful to you if you would provide some further information to the claim that Janes reported that Iran would have nuclear weapons by 83.
I've looked but can not find anything to substantiate your claim....the closest that I can find is janes, in 1984, quoting a claim from a German source, that iran was working on nuclear weapons and that the work was quite advanced.

Was this what you were thinking of or do you have something much earlier and more of a solid prediction from Janes rather than them quoting someone else as making an almost-prediction?

  7. I agree wih Mr. Uskowi The MI6 Warmongerer is trying to start a War.Because the Anglo/Zionist are desperate, they've lost the Political battle and ground battle inside Syria. Theyre losing influence amongst the Gulf Arabs, who are shaking in theyre cowardice little boots!

Russia and China are running political interference for Iran inside the Midde East. And The USA/Nato Alliance, have been out witted on every political front.
So the only recourse they have now is War! Iran does not have, Nuclear weapons capability, and they know it. Theyre strategy is to attack Iran and weaken it over time, while imposing more death gripping sanctions, therefore causing the Persians and other ethnic groups to revolt and demand autonomy. But the Iranians are to smart to be goaded into a War. That is why, so far they have managed to out wit the Globalist Anglo/Zionist, on the series of Sanction resolutions passed by the lapdog U.N... Iranians are patient methodical and brilliant and will eventually find a way around this dangerous plot as they always do. The Anglo/Zionist/Globalist Monsters will soon bring about theyre own demise. Simply because the world as we know it is wising up to Globalist Imperialism. Every day former client states of the Globalist, are demanding theyre freedom and Independance, and are jumping on the Goodship of freedom and Independance. Hang in their Iran! for when the Indomittable spirit of Human will prevails you will be the Victor! And will have lead the path for Humanity to follow. As your great Ancestors did.

  8. OK Iran will be nuclear armed in 2014 or maybe even sooner.
    Then what?
We can sit with our nuclear bomb and be like Pakistan an bankrupt Islamic republic with a decrepit economy and 90% poverty.
I congratulate those so called Iranians that feel happy about the state of affairs in our country.

  9. @Mr Uskowi

Please don't feed the vultures on this blog.
MI6 and even the CIA said some things.
But the fact of the matter is that they as well as the clergy in Iran are hand in glove with the oil cartel to fleece Iran from its wealth and leaving the Iranian people disadvantaged.
Iran is a occupied country and its occupiers are the gang of so called clergy run remotely by the oil cartel and their masters.
Don't believe me? Then why is it every time a IRGC member says some boloney as regards the straits,Brent oil shots up!
And you know that Brent comes from the North sea of Britain.
Or that the BBC and VOA both support Musavi a regime henchmen.Strange isn't it?
