Russian FM Visits Tehran

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov flew into Tehran on Wednesday to discuss upcoming nuclear talks in Moscow.

“The Iranian side is interested in coming up with solutions which would contribute to the settlement of the nuclear issues,” Lavrov told reporters in Tehran after meeting Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi [AFP/IRNA, 14 June].

Salehi said he was “optimistic” about the prospects of the Moscow Talks.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had said on Tuesday that the Iranians were under tremendous pressure from the Russians and the Chinese to come to Moscow (18-19 June) prepared to respond to proposals by the six major powers to end the standoff on its nuclear program.

The P5+1 has asked Iran to halt its enrichment of uranium to 20 percent, ship out its stockpile of 20-percent uranium, halt enrichment at its Fordo facility and sign IAEA’s additional protocol for inspection of its nuclear sites. In return, the economic sanctions against the country would be lifted.

  1. Sadly,I hate to 'toot my own horns (at 6:55 AM on March 14, 2012 & May 19+21, 2012 posts),' but my analytical powers are coming into fruition after the Baghdad charade.

The most powerful man on earth since Adolf Hitler is a Netanyahu. Due to gross diplomatic malfeasance, for the next 5 months the powers that be have bestowed upon the Israeli Prime Minister the chutzpa to jump start WW3. Without any foresight, the Cowboy not only usurped his own foreign policy but ceded his war machine to a Netanyahu until the day after the US presidential election (If 'Yahoo starts bombing the Cowboy 'got his back'). Having adopted a rope-a-dope posture as the Israelite-without-fear issued blistering threats, the only choices Iran have is to either capitulate as they did when their nuclear scientists were being killed or strike back. Once the bombing starts their Persian Pride will get the best of them as the Iranians showcase their full military might; thereafter, the chain of events will lead to WW3 {the definition of which is the exchange of nuclear-critical-warheads with Hiroshima-like results}.

I have lamented about this for months as the Beast roared louder, and louder, and louder, with no one there to slap it down. What you are missing is a JPost news flash: “Putin to Visit Israel Amid Syria, Iran Concerns” on June 25. After the pre- and post SCO pronouncements by China, Russia & SCO, this visit will be a face-to-face reality check on the limits of being a megalomaniac in today's world. The only question that matters, is, How insane is a Netanyahu? Is his former Shin Bet chief, Yuval Diskin, right when he publicly declared, “I saw them [Netanyahoo+Barak] up close, they are not messiahs. …barking dogs don't bite. … My main problem on this issue is that I don't have confidence in the current leadership of the State of Israel – that (they) could lead Israel into something of the order of magnitude of a war with Iran or a regional war?” Was his former Mossad chief right when he said, “An aerial attack against Iran's nuclear reactors would be foolish. …I feel obligated to express my opinion on certain matters. The prime minister and defense minister are the ones in charge, but sometimes good sense and a good decision don't have anything to do with being elected?"

This is why I am scared … the most powerful and the most dangerous megalomaniac on the planet may not have his faculties in order. When Bibi says that Iran is an 'existential' threat what he means in psycho-talk is “kill or be killed.” As the world turns, 7 billion earthlings are blissfully ignorant of the precarious precipice that will unfold after Moscow.

    Pray that I'm wrong!

Wrong. The sanctions against airplane parts would be lifted. NOt all sanctions. Not even close.

  4. If Iran does accept those demands, P5+1 would not be able to sustain any of the sanctions for long. Probably linking their removals with the progress on the ground in Iran. But the sanctions would be unsustainable under those conditions.
