GCC Foreign Ministers to Meet on Tuesday

Iran-UAE Dispute Over Persian Gulf Islands on Agenda

GCC foreign ministers will hold a special meeting in Riyadh on Tuesday to discuss the islands dispute between Iran and the UAE, Emirates 24/7 and AFP reported today.

The Gulf Cooperation Council meeting comes after Abu Dhabi recalled its ambassador to Tehran in protest at a visit to Abu Musa Island last Wednesday by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Abu Dhabi has also lodged a protest with the UN over Ahmadinejad's visit, stressing that the territorial dispute should be resolved through negotiations or at the International Court of Justice.

Iran referred to the visit as a purely "domestic issue."
Iran under the Shah gained control of the islands of Abu Musa, Lesser Tunb and Greater Tunb in 1971, as Britain withdrew its forces. In return, the shah’s government recognized the independence of Bahrain.

Abu Musa, the only inhabited island of the three, was placed under joint administration in a deal with the emirate of Sharjah, now part of the UAE. Iran has since taken control of the entire island which controls access to the Persian Gulf and have installed an airport and military base on Abu Musa.

  1. Bahrain was ruled by Britain for over one hundred and fifty years. At least the Shah got those three islands in return for recognizing Bahrain independents. You must realize that Bahrain hadn't belonged to Iran for 200 years with largely Shia non-Iranian Arab population.
The present government have its way, would give away islands back in recognition of Irans right to nuclear technology. That's how far these people would sink to save themselves and that infernal program.
Remember the Qajars did the same thing when they sold or lost Iranian territory to the Russians (our so-called friend)according to the Islamic un-republic.
The Islamic un-republic gave away 37 per cent of the Caspian sea rights to the ex-soviet states and only left with 13 per cent in return Russia vetoing the Wests opposition against the nuclear program.
Irans president sat under a banner of a summit in the Persian gulf which read Arab Gulf.If I had the decency I would have turned around and left the building instead of sitting down with a bunch of Arab pimps and letting them insult Iran.
But of course there will be idiots on this blog that will claim otherwise with their nonsensical anti Iranian anti nationalist pro Islamist short sighted beliefs.

  2. I just came back from Iran and the situation is not very good at the moment. There are so many youths and young people unemployed and doing nothing all day.The people only care about jobs and looking for the next meal because times are very hard. They care not for the Atom program or Felestin and they hate all the government including Mousavi and Khatami and wish Khamenei dead so Iran can be free from these terrorists.

  3. I came last week from Iran and I see brave people standing their turf.

Unemployment is everywhere across the world and worse than all are Israel and the US, the later with almost 12% homelessness.

Lets not exaggerate Irans situation, had it not been for the from the dissidents a la MKO initiated sanctions, Iran would have been far better off.

But considering the sanctions and boycotts and threats and terrors next to assassinations of people (scientists)in Iran, Iran is doing much better than all those satelite states that harbor the likes of us hypocriticqal Iranians who have actually left Iran 20-30 years ago and stil claim to know better.
