Qaddafi Is Killed

An end to four decades of ruthless autocratic rule

The way ahead is to hold free elections and establish a new regime free of barbarianism and lifelong rule of an autocratic leader; paving the way for the proud people of Libya to establish democratic rule in their country.

Libya's UN human development index, prior to recent events: 55.

Higher than Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Russia, Iran, Brazil, Turkey, Egypt, South Africa, India ...

Number 1, yes, 1, in Africa.

  2. Follow the same link and you'll see that Libya's UN human development index is well below that of the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, and Kuwait.

  4. It simply naive to think democracy works for all countries. Thats some real american propaganda crap. But i do support democracy generally. Countries are just like people- they all have their unique histories and they have to have systems that allow them "live" with themselves in some sort of stability.Lets see what Libyans do now!

  5. Kemjika,

Are you saying that our wish for the establishment of a democratic rule in Libya is naïve and based on American propaganda? I assume then based on that theory, some peoples are doomed to be ruled by lifelong autocratic rulers. And isn’t that propaganda for dictatorship at least in some countries?

  6. I would guess that Kemjika means that, in some places, the people are too ignorant or superstitious or too prone to violence to be entrusted with governing themselves and democracy simply wouldn't suit them.

or maybe it's that wanting to have some right in determining the affairs of the nation makes people enemies of God.

  7. How can democracy not work for everybody?

Forget America for a second. All it really means is that government is accountable to the people, so that its actions benefit the people.

How can you think that is bad for any country or that any people would rather not have some control over their destiny and wellbeing?

the "development" is based on the oil wealth, Paul....

wanna try finding where Libya ranks on human rights?

    http://allafrica.com/stories/201110100945.html

"Egypt, Libya and Tunisia demonstrate starkly the imbalance between weak performance in Safety & Rule of Law and Participation & Human Rights and strong performance in Sustainable Economic Opportunity and Human Development. This imbalance between the countries' performance in Human Development and Participation and Human Rights might well have been a trigger for instability.
While all three countries are ranked in the top ten in Human Development, with Egypt and Tunisia also ranked in the top ten for Sustainable Economic Opportunity, all three countries are ranked in the bottom half of the Index for Participation & Human Rights, with scores that are below the continental average.
