Ahmadinejad Charged with “Misuse of Power”

Key Majlis Committee to Recommend Punishment

A key parliamentary committee in Iran has charged President Ahmadinejad with “misuse of presidential power.” The Article 90 Commission of Majlis, the committee overseeing the implementation of laws passed by the parliament, said today that Ahmadinejad’s refusal to implement a new law passed by Majlis regarding the formation of a new Ministry of Sports and Youths (MoSY) was illegal and a misuse of executive power. The committee is to recommend to the full Majlis an appropriate punishment against the president, which could include a ban from holding public office from one to five years.

  3. Anon 4:28 AM,

Punishment was the translation of the Farsi word "Mojazat." The Article 90 Commission of Majlis uses that language. What does this have to do with the Pahlavis? Am I missing something here?

  4. You "Mojazat" a child for being naughty and you "Mojazat" a murderer for his crime.... Iranians know the meanings.

But you "Sir" are using English and the English speaking people need to be exactly told what is meant... A murderer is punished by death or prison.. but a politician is sanctioned for his or her policies...

lets face it the Americans , not being the brightest of people need no extra "implications" from you to criminalize Iran and its politicians....

BBC and VOA are doing enough.

    Eradatmande shoma.

  5. You really need to direct your anger at Majlis's Article 90 Commission. The use of the word Mojazat is theirs. This blogger is reporting what they have said.

Now going back to the main issue at hand: If Ahmadinejad is punished, or "sanctioned" if you will, by the Majlis over this issue, he will lose his presidency. This is no joke, and could be very serious. Although I personally do not believe the Majlis will go as far as convicting him over the issue of ministry of youths and sports. Will report any new developments in this regard, if any.
