Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian today reiterated the Islamic Republic’s full backing for the embattled Syrian government.
Amir-Abdollahian dismissed a report published on Saturday by Turkish daily Radikal quoting Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu as saying that the support of Iran and Russia for Syria had waned, and restated Tehran’s full support for Damascus [Press TV, 12 March].
Amir-Abdollahian also expressed confidence that President Bashar al-Assad will continue reforms in Syria and will lead efforts against foreign intervention.
Iran supports The Syrian regime because it's dominated by alawaite Shiites, and Saudi Arabia supports a democracy seeking revolutionaries because they're lead by majority Sunnis.
ReplyDeleteBoth theocracies dicatorships don't really care about the Syrian people and their democratic aspirations, and both countries will be on the wrong side of history.
The future government of Syria should be vigilant and keep both countries' crazy fanatic agenda in check, otherwise Syria would end up with a long, never ending, civil war.
The contributions of Saudi Arabia and Iran in Iraq should serve as a cautionary tail for the syrians. Without Saudi and Iranian petro-dollars and lgistical support for the various militant groups, Iraq would have had a shorter civil war and a more stable political system.
Iran should stay out of Arab affairs that includes Syria and Iraq as well as Lebanon.
ReplyDeleteIran has many problems of its own namely the mullah regime and their disdain towards Iran itself.
Unlike the US for Egypt loool
ReplyDeleteDear Dr Jabbar
ReplyDeletebefore you start to make a large Blah-Blah comment about global Situation, please remember that im Iran is no copoun more exist im Iran to force people goint to election.
I would respond if I could comprehend.
DeleteFazeli, Iran supports the Baathist dictatorship in Syria because should it fall, Lebanese Hezbollah would wither.
ReplyDeleteNaive and simplistic comments notwithstanding, the fact remains that Iran-Syria ties date back to the jange tahmili days when Syria stood with Iran against literally all the Arabs and the world.
ReplyDeleteSome of the comments by people with bizarre monickers like "MD" (what ever that means) also show how out of touch these Iran bashers are. Syria is a close ally and has a substantial Alevi Shia population, along with Shia majorities in Lebanon, Iraq, Bahrain, and perhaps Yemen.
Vali Nasr before being booted out of the Omama ME policy post (for being objective and pro-Iran) has covered Iran's strategic foreign policy goals quite well in his book The SHIA REVIVAL.
Events of the past year have quite clearly shown that Bashar-al-Assad has majority support in his country as well as unfliching loyalty of the 400,000 strong military (who are mostly Sunni). Iran, Russia, China, India and most of the Zionist-free world has rightly concluded that the legitimate Syrian government is in no danger of "regime change". Iran will support fraternal Syria regardless.
It would be good if some the western based armchair commentators on Iranian affairs on this blog at least make an effort to learn Iranian history and strategic foreign policy that has remained relatively constant. Amal, the forerunner to the Hezbollah was initially supported and created by the Pahlavi regime as a Shia foothold in the Levant. In realpolitik national goals surmount temporary upheavels.
@ 2:57 AM,
ReplyDelete“Unflinching loyalty of the 400,000 strong military,” “no danger of regime change,” “support of Iran, Russia, China,” do not hide the fact of ongoing crimes against humanity perpetuated by Assad and his government. Forty years of dictatorial rule by the family needs to come to an end, and sooner the better for the people in Syria, but also for the development of the region.

ReplyDeleteIranians no longer give a damn about "SHIA REVIVAL".
What matters now is IRANIAN REVIVAL.
That means freedom from the fascist framework of mullah dictatorship with their never ending animosity towards Iranians and all things Iranian.
To anonymous 7:13 am how would you know what Iranians want, you being Israeli. Please stop BS'ing us . And don't tell us what we want.
ReplyDeleteshamsi
ReplyDeleteOh because an Iranian who just doesn't support an evil theocracy is an "Israeli".
Is that the best you came out with?
For your information I am Iranian and unfortunately like you a Shia.
But fortunately unlike you I have my own brain and can tell the difference between good and bad and the ruling regime is bad.
I know what people like you want, the total domination of Iranian society by a corrupt and backward leadership in the name of Islam be it Shia or Sunni.
And people like you either have their head deep into the sand or are paid agents of IRI.
And I still say Iranians don't give a damn about "Shia revival".
If that offends you deal with it.
Anon 7:40 PM.....It's strange that a person that puts Iran above the Shia religion is classed as an "Israeli". Yet you have so called Iranians who don't give a rats ass about Iran except for Palestinians and Hezbollah, classed as "pro Iran".
ReplyDeleteI can confirm that these people are nothing but anti Iran Muslim Pakistanis or shia Arabs from Lebanon and Iraq. But as you rightfully said there is a strong chance they are brainless IRI agents as well.
All the best my friend.

ReplyDeleteWho's us?
Who do you speak for?
You certainly don't speak for the majority of Iranians maybe some ragtag mullahs.Anon 10:13 AM is spot on so who is "BS'ing us" now?
shamsi are you Palestinian?
ReplyDeleteAnon 12:53 PM
ReplyDeleteJudging by his sudden silence evidently he is.

ReplyDeleteMaybe he/she was one of those Islamist trolls that suddenly appear from under the stone?
